This is an old man yelling at cloud thing but here goes.
I'm aware that this is just the modern equivalent of Mom or Dad taking the order sheet to work; but I think it's bullshit that school fundraisers are posted on Facebook. Sub sales, candy, whatever. I used to sling that **** door to door and I **** hated it. Kids need to get out and **** hate it the way I did, gawd dam it. Now the parents just take a picture of the order sheet with their phone and wait for their Venmo to fill up.

My daughter’s elementary school doesn’t do this, nor did her preschool. My sister’s preschool, on the other hand, has 3 fundraisers every single year, and two of them are selling stuff from some Skymall-like website for housewares. Weird, expensive stuff. This latest one is selling mini Bundt cakes. This is an old man yelling at cloud thing but here goes.

I agree. And I also feel we shouldn’t have to fundraise for public schools. I don’t remember doing it much until I got to my stupid Catholic high school.
My kids schools did not want kids going door to door to solicit for this ****, for safety reasons. It’s basically another tax - we just pony up for whatever cheap **** is being sold and be done with it. Occasionally, we’ll reach out to extended family, but that’s rare these days.

I hated door to door selling. My social anxiety would paralyze me. I never ended up doing it

The closest thing our elementary school does is a bake sale on Election Day in the main hall, and having random ‘special’ days - like pajama day - where you can donate $1 to fund the 5th and 6th graders (trips and something else).

I assumed Stranger Danger was the answer. When I was a kid I probably never went more than a 1/4 mile from home. And I was a 110lb 5th grader so, yeah.
The flip side is it's super easy to just scroll past it now. If a kid came to my door I'd buy whatever they were selling just to be nice; I'm not sure that has happened since we lived in NC. Online? *skip*

Our kids won’t know good they have it. We are “let me write you a stupid check” parents. I don’t have time to pimp candy bars and tie dye t shirts.

Ring Doorbell helps in these situations, not that we get a lot of kids selling stuff. I’m still annoyed that my wife bought some recipe book from the Jehovah’s Witness clowns a few years ago. They kept writing letters and leaving notes and **** until I confronted them. Haven’t heard a peep in over 2 years.

Does Ring make a model that will dispense a $5 bill?
I'm with MiMH. If a kid has the stones to come to my place and ask for fundraising, I'll gladly do it. Because I was a shy kid and hated, hated, hated it.

Yeah, I’m not as opposed to kids fundraising. Religious nut jobs… get ****.

Did anyone have to do that thing in school where you had people “sponsor” you for something goofy, like jumping jacks? Basically being paid to do workout routines in a special gym event.
Or was that just my school district?

When you did jumping jacks, were there a bunch of men in wife beaters holding a camera by any chance...? Any guys you called "uncle" maybe...?

Nah, these were actual jumping jacks, not euphemisms…

We had a jump rope thing like that in third grade. And then the occasional walk-a-thon.
Selling ads for our annual hockey book wasn't so bad. I was hitting up businesses, not people that I just yanked off the couch. I actually want to see if they're still doing this so I can advertise the law firm in it.

Yeah, that was one of them. Glad I wasn’t the only one. THAT was more awkward than selling ****, because at least the person got something.

mini meow has that now. It’s per lap run in the gym. First year we weren’t sure how much to sponsor for. How many laps could a first grader possibly run around a basketball court? 8? 9? Yeah seems reasonable. Say $5 a lap. This little monster ran like 38 laps. Cost us like $200

We did the presidents physical fitness test when I was in elementary school. I remember doing high jump, long jump, v-sit and reach, pull ups, shuttle run, mile run and im sure one or two other things.

I don’t recall doing that. We did have a rope and if you could get to the top, you could come down and get a sharpie and go back up and sign the ceiling. Ya boy meow’s signature is up there.
Come to think about it, can’t believe that was allowed. High school kids dangling 50 feet in the air with one arm on the rope.

The Presidential fitness thing wasn’t something you had to ask for money for, though, unless I’m remember wrong. Ours was similar, but also included the rope climb.
