Unless I am staying the whole week I put the do not disturb sign out every day anyway. Room doesn't need to be cleaned every day, in fact why would I want some stranger milling about my room unnecessarily?
Understanding that housekeeping, maintenance, and who knows who else has a key anyway and will mill about if they want....

Yep - prefer no housekeeping at all while I'm there. If I need something, like towels, I'll just call the front desk as necessary.

Staffing is also an issue during Covid so there’s that as well.Maybe I completely missed this transition, maybe Covid was the reason; it appears hotels now are making it optional for room cleaning services. You have to opt in and specifically ask for it. They mask it as a way to “save the environment” but obviously it’s a way to save themselves money without taking anything out of the cost of the hotel stay.
Just got back from Florida and same thing, though they clearly said it was Covid related.

I just discovered Amazon Explore, where you can buy 'virtual' experiences: https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=19419898011
They have animal adventures, nature walks, all sorts of stuff. This actually looks pretty neat, and is inexpensive. Amazon is giving Prime members $50 off their first virtual experience using code FREEFUN.

Just checked our flights for July, and all 4 flights are 100% full, which means they probably oversold al flights by 10%. I guess air travel is back to normal.

I wanna use some of the 200k Hilton points I have. Where is a fun place to go, maybe out west? Preferably somewhere near a southwest flight as I have a ton of those points too.

Anybody got Amtrak family of five experience.
We were thinking about going one way by train to visit my sister's fam this summer and 1 leg would be overnight. It'd be great to get a bedroom, but they're only setup for four. The kids are small enough that it wouldn't be a problem space wise, but I can't seem to trick the computer into letting me do it.

Leaving on Saturday for our first OBX trip of the year. We are doing the same thing we did last year; one in-season trip, one off-season trip which is possible due to our daughter doing school remotely. Figure this is the last year we will be able to do it, so want to take advantage.
I'm planning on working three days while I'm down there, will save my PTO for the second trip later this summer. The change of scenery and being able to work on the beachfront deck will be wonderful.

I wasn't a big fan of San Diego, personally. Go if your plan is to visit the San Diego Zoo as well as the Safari Park, but it'd be a short trip for me.

It's close enough that you would probably be within 2 degrees of Tif with every single person.

Made the mistake of taking 95 home today from the OBX (instead of US 13) because it worked well last time.

Mac, if you come to SoCal and base in the Whale's Vagina, there are three aviation museums you might be interested in checking out.
USS Midway (more or less downtown/Gaslamp)
SD Air & Space Museum (Balboa Park, closer to the zoo; they also have an annex east of the city)
Flying Leatherneck (aboard MCAS Miramar, about 8 miles north of the city)

I was on I-95 in SC for about 70 miles yesterday (to and from my parents’ house in Charleston) and it was an absolute shitshow. Ridiculous amount of traffic in both directions.Made the mistake of taking 95 home today from the OBX (instead of US 13) because it worked well last time.

That's one of the reasons that I run Waze all of the time and even when I know exactly where I'm going. Every once in a while it will send me out of the usual route, so I know there was some some sort of traffic eff up.

I check Google maps before I leave to or from work just to make sure there’s nothing crazy going on.

I am religious with checking it. It did save us as we bailed off of 95 in Northern Virginia on the last exit before a closure.I check Google maps before I leave to or from work just to make sure there’s nothing crazy going on.
