Creed II sitting at 81% on RT after 84 reviews. This is a good thing. I wonder how many more sequels they'll try to make. The Rocky series by the RT numbers:
Creed - 95%
Rocky - 93%
Rocky Balboa - 76%
Rocky II - 74%
Rocky III - 65%
Rocky IV - 38% - THIS IS A **** CRIME
Rocky V - 27% - Should be lower.

Rocky IV should seriously be studied by film students. 90 minutes of efficient cinema. How much fluff is in that movie? None.

The movie is 32% montage. That's how you get **** done quickly, efficiently, and entertainingly.

I mean Rocky Balboa was a nice recovery from the mess that is V, and was definitely better than I expected it to be... But it's still firmly below all but V as far as I am concerned.
And F whoever didn't appreciate Rocky ending the Cold War.

That's not efficiency. That's lethargy. There's no storytelling in a training montage. This is not the same as the baptism montage from The Godfather, it is more like 'ooooh, muscles'.The movie is 32% montage. That's how you get **** done quickly, efficiently, and entertainingly.
KTK asked how much fluff is in Rocky IV? Looks like about 1/3 of the running time.

Actual target audience:

Twenty-nine minutes of Rocky IV is montage.
The two longest such scenes run for nearly 8 minutes.
During these periods, the story is completely stagnant. No new information is given to the audience, and neither the hero nor the villain is any different at the end than when they started the sequence. Twenty-nine minutes of a 91-minute movie serves no purpose.
The montages in RI, RII and RIII actually do serve story purposes. They show the plucky underdog rising to the challenge; the bum from nowhere becoming a hero of the community; the fallen champion re-learning what made him great (and frolicking in the ocean!). The training montage in RIV's main contribution to the movie is to show that it's snowy in Mother Russia.

The training montage in Rocky IV shows the most realistic part of the whole film - steroid use by a Russian athlete.

Evidently the trailer for the new “live action” remake of The Lion King debuted yesterday, and by live action they mean CGI.
