I'd have to agree. He looked pretty comfortable with Sid.I'm a yes here. He's looked like he belongs, and it's probably not a coincidence Sid got red hot when DOC bumped up to his line imo. I guess I'd say if Sid approves, he's on his wing
unless O'Connor has outright won the role

I hope someone teaches DOC that he doesn't need to stick handle 4 feet away from his body. I feel like he'd be even more effective if he was able to hold the puck a little closer.

I wonder if DOC has a ceiling above third liner...

This might be the closest to insider information I will ever have.. My buddies wife is a nanny and the family she nannies for lives next to the Rakells. She said Rakells wife thinks hes getting traded.Off-season Priorities:
1) Re-Sign Sid
2) Trade Smith at all costs
3) See if you can offload Graves
4) Re-Sign Ned
5) Re-Evaluate Jarry (is there a trade? Are you riding with him? etc.)
UFAs gonna be interesting. IMO, they still need another second liner (unless O'Connor has outright won the role).
I'd be interested in Warren Foegele, Anthony Duclair, I'd be curious what Bertuzzi would cost - but he's not a break the bank player, but I'd kick tires.

For starters.Hopefully GMKD learned a lot this season.
Get a new pro scouting staff?

Even though the window is pretty much closed, I think this goes down as one of the hardest lost seasons in a while. IMO the reason being that the team brought in the reigning Norris and one of the all time great offensive defenseman the league has seen. It somehow resulted in a PP that was pretty much dead last in the entire league.
Finished at 15.3% with 40 goals if what I read is correct. If that thing hums at 25% which should have been very realistic that adds another 25 goals over the season. That makes teams more tentative when attacking Penguins players, and that opens up space. It also covers a lot of warts the team has and game make up for various downfalls.
I like Sully and think he’s a good coach but seemingly doing nothing to correct the awful PP needs to be looked at harder than it has been.
I also realize the team is old. Nearly every game I watched this season they just seemed to be half a step behind the other teams. Just barely not fast enough to do what they wanted, just a little off their timing, just a puzzle piece that doesn’t quite fit…
I don’t have a big solution but the main point is that it’s unacceptable to not figure out how to put together an effective power play with the personal available over the entire season.

18% on the PP probably gets them in the playoffs. DOC really isn't a first liner, but I have no problem keeping him with Sid for now. For most of Sid's career he's been turning straw into gold when it comes to linemates (armstrong, dupuis, sheary, hilbert ).
Unfortunately, that money would likely be better spent elsewhere in my opinion.

The same PP% and not giving up that shorty to Anaheim probably gets them in.

is that reference in general or to the retirement image that the pens posted?Except in Columbus of course. And it's surprising how well respected he is

And if Philadelphia didn't have a historic collapse, we don't get a sniff...they played .400 hockey the last two months of the year, They won 2 of 13 games from 3/14 to 4/9...losing 9 in a row at one point to the likes of Montreal, Chicago, Columbus, and Buffalo...
All they have to do is not be completely brutal, and our playoff odds wouldn't have gotten very interesting...

to me it's not about DOC putting up 30 goals or 100 points or whatever - it's speed, puck retrieval, winning board battles to get Sid and Rust the puck.. that's a really tough line to play against, a real skilled group of grinders basically, similar to 9-87-14DOC really isn't a first liner, but I have no problem keeping him with Sid for now. DOC was exposed a little bit a few games ago. I think he's fine to be on Sid's line but defensively I'd like to see him sure up a little bit
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
I agree. But I also have some concerns if DOC can keep that form and play style for 82 games a season.

Any worry about Sid not signing an extension?

I can't imagine him not wanting to re-sign here. He already has 3 Cups so I don't think he cares that much about chasing another'
tbh I can see him taking a little bit of a pay cut, even
