CBJ only made the playoffs twice prior to him being hired there (09 with Hitchcock, and 14 with Todd Richards), and had won all of 2 playoff games in those two years (both coming against the Pens in 2014).
They missed his first year, then made it 4 years in a row before missing again in the bubble year, which led to his firing/mutual parting.
I would say, relatively to the franchise's history before and after, they were successful during his tenure.
