Also PSU alum and college football is dumb. I do however have an entire dresser drawer full of Penn State hockey stuff. (Actually it's like six t-shirts and a 1993 jersey)

as a Steeler fan I will root for Friermuth unless he turns into a big sissy like Jesse James is and then he'd be dead to me. I don't expect it though, Friermuth is very good

PSU grad. PSU fan. Also root for Pitt, unless they're playing PSU.
I can also appreciate that both Head Coaches tread into Summer's Eve territory fairly often, and both teams can be very frustrating to be fans of every year.
Pickett to Muth for years to come sounds delicious.

Agreed.Source of the post Pickett to Muth for years to come sounds delicious.
Also, I have a co-worker with a lot of Pitt and whatever Heinz field is called now connections. He claimed this morning that the Steelers aren't planning to play Kenny because they're worried what a bad start and Steelers fans booing him would have on his psyche... are you f*cking kidding me? That's not a thing. Stop it.

I'm more worried about his hand size than his psyche...and I'm not worried about his hand size.
I think that Trubisky should definitely start week one based on experience, and because the O-line has looked like dogsh*t so far this preseason. No point in throwing a rookie to the wolves if he has no protection.
If the offense struggles to score, but the O-line has come around and it's Trubs that's leading to the struggles, I could see Pickett getting a shot in maybe week 5 or so.

If there's one thing I have come to believe in the last hour months it is that there is a segment of Steelers fans who will be biologically incapable of booing Pickett.

I love Pitt and I love Pickett.
With that said Trubisky is the starter. Media tries to get clicks but Trubisky is the #1 to start the season.

I wonder how the HBO folks are going to play the Pickett angle for the final preseason game. They don't usually do more than lip service for highly touted rooks on the other team.

Yes Trubisky starts. And if he throws an incompletion we riot until KP goes inI love Pitt and I love Pickett.

But seriously Mitch should start until he proves he shouldn't imo

This is correct. No way I’m trotting out my first round pick behind this god awful line.Mitch should start until the line improves. Protect Kenny.

Yea, I love Kenny as much as the next yinzer at this point, but that offensive line is dangerous to the health of the QB at the moment. It's kind of insane at how poor they've paid attention to it, and this is now year like 2.5 of the team knowing the line sucks and them barely addressing it.

Yeah let's not Andrew Luck this thing.

They signed 2 or 3 linemen didn't they? I read in a comment on a paywall site that most of the O-line players are playing out of position or in positions that were secondary positions to them in college or on another NFL team. The author of the article confirmed the comment was true...so WTF?
Maybe the college team or previous NFL team was using the players incorrectly? Or the Steelers system requires different players' body sizes or something to work?Daniels was a LEFT guard and center in Chicago and center at Iowa. We have him at right guard.
Cole played right guard and center with the Vikings. We have him at center.
Dotson was a right guard for U of L. We have him at left guard.

From what I've read, the non-pgh media was not very impressed by the FA signings for offensive line
Steelers 2021-2022 Offseason Discussion
They signed two moderately average guys. Pieces that are probably complementary to a good Oline, but when put on this Oline, they're average to detrimental because they're not good enough to protect the others. They signed 2 or 3 linemen didn't they? The lack of top draft capital spent there in the first two rounds, is noticeable.
Steelers 2021-2022 Offseason Discussion
They've taken a shot on basically 5-6 new OL over the past two years. It's possible maybe none of them work out. The alternative would be to have drafted OL and have holes at WR, RB and TE. I think those spots are difficult to fill without higher end draft capital. A lot of the Steelers OL over the past decade were late round pickups and FA signings like Beachum, Foster, Essex, Colon, Villanueva etc.
The strategy may not end up working but I at least understand the thought. Worst case, the skill positions should be set now and you can load up on linemen going forward

The only problem with WR and TE. The Steelers have shown they draft well for WR in later rounds. They were losing Ben. They don't need top-end WR talent at the moment. They've taken a shot on basically 5-6 new OL over the past two years. It's possible maybe none of them work out. Najee is fantastic - but RBs are a grind and dump position. They need blockers, or basically anyone but Najee can do anything.
TE - the way they use TEs, it's really kind of pointless. Pat is great, glad he's here, but his draft position should make him a Gronk like target going forwards. Steelers have never done that, so who knows.
Two drafts in a row, the highest lineman pick was Green, they put him in a position he admitted he didn't like, and now he's looking like a back-up guard this year.
No bueno, imo.
