my sand game is struggling right now.. i'm pretty good if the sand is, let's call it a medium to hard texture. But the course I play at most of the time now has super soft, thick sand and I just can't figure it out right now. Sand yips

I’ve found that a short backswing and more speed thru impact makes bunker shots a bit more effective...but only if there’s enough sand in that bunker. I was going thru a bad bunker stretch until I played the Scottish courses last summer and needed distance on some of the greenside bunkers. Get some sand and fluff it outta there.

You ever have one of those days where it feels like you're striking the ball well and then you stand on the green and total up your shots and want to puke? Yeah, that was me yesterday. I think I only had one hole where I was truly hacking, and that only resulted in a 6, but wound up barely breaking 100. That's what 4 or 5 balls that leak OB but are still retrievable will do to you I guess. I didn't lose a bunch of balls, but I put up at least three 7's thanks to that. No flubbed chips, no double timing in the bunkers, just a handful of lip outs and in general abysmal scoring.
Played the course I learned on, and I took my father's mantra of "there's very few places here where being long will hurt you" too much to heart.

Chez Reavie goes from being a virtual unknown before last week to finishing Top 5 at Pebble and now he is leading the Travelers by four strokes after a beautiful 63 today. His resurgence has been another great story this year.

That tourney got thrown on its ear about midway through as Sucher had a nice healthy lead and then somehow, an In-N-Out franchise opened in Cromwell and Reavie got hot and now you have a blowout going the other way. Now he gets to face the specter of the fact that just 6 54-hole leaders since 2000 have gone on to win this tourney, including Paul Casey's yakked 6-shot lead last year. River Highlands is good for silly low scores (Furyk's 58 happened there a couple years back...I was there) so if Reavie thinks he's going to get by with a 69 (heh heh), he's nuts.

Did the broadcast actually show Reavie this week or was it just a constant stream of his playing partner again?

We are on the cusp of another great golf story this week. Nate Lashley has put together two bogey-free 63s this week and has a six shot lead in Detroit. That dude has been through hell in his personal life...would love to see him get his first win on tour.

If I get a hole in one, as long as it’s not a mulligan, I’m counting it.

I mentioned my hole in one on here before. It was on a par 3, 85 yards, on a mom and pop course that had chickens running around on the previous green. Do I claim it as an official one? No. The only time I really mention it is if the question comes up.

But like MR25 said, some of those are really gatekeeping. The mulligan ones I get, and the same goes with the "get me another ball. I wanna try something." But you can't claim one during a scramble? You can't claim it if you use a buddy's club? My hole in one is not valid because the course is currently running a temporary green? **** right off with that.

Seems to be written by a pompous a-hole that would give Judge Smails a run for his money in the 'Get off My Lawn' Award. It's jackasses like this guy that discourages the casual player. You knock it in on the first shot? That's an ace. Doesn't matter that it's a scramble, I'm using my buddy's club, or if it has a temporary green. We're not playing a damn tournament so we can relax the sphincter-tightening USGA rules.

This has been an excellent tournament. Wolff and Morikawa going back and forth has been awesome. Especially Wolff draining the eagle to knock Bryson out. Morikawa's last chance here for his eagle

Nope. Wolff wins it at 20 years old

Tackled my first Northern Ireland course yesterday. Got around Portstewart, which held the Irish Open 2 years ago. The rule as always with these type of courses is keep it out of the tall stuff. I failed miserably at times. I had more whiffs in 6 holes than I have had in maybe the past 15 years. Also incredibly hilly. The monitor at the end of the day said I climbed the equivalent of 43 floors.
