Right. I'm fine with those actors being the same, but at least put some effort in to making them look like they've also progressed. Definitely weird.

The remaining actors were aged, though Ser Criston and Daemon were definitely more subtle. As opposed to, say, Viserys. Him making his entrance with one arm may have been the funniest moment on the show so far.

My brother in law called me last night asking why did they get Jules from Euphoria to play grown-up Rhaenyra and now I can't unsee it.

Apparently Emma D’Arcy, the actor, is non binary

Yeah they don't look all that alike without the Targaryen wig but in character the resemblance is pretty striking.
This is a very smart quote from them, acknowledging the difficulty in changing cast midway through a season.
"Grieving" the loss of Milly Alcock is exactly how I felt during episode 6. D'Arcy and Cooke did a great job taking over the roles though. Cooke, in particular, is insane casting. She looks exactly like a grown-up Emily Carey and she killed it in ep 6."It's complicated, isn't it?" D'Arcy said. "It's a difficult point at which to meet an audience. They only get me when they lose Milly, so they meet me in a place of grief, of losing someone they just spent five hours with. I'm... I'm well aware of that."

I was amazed to find out the actress who played young Alicent was only 19. I would’ve guessed mid-20s
I honestly think they could’ve stuck with the original actresses and just done some aging up but ultimately this is probably just a small thing that’s specific to this episode because of how jarring the transition was. Next episode I don’t think anyone really cares anymore about it

Awesome episode. I feel like Downton Abbey prepared me for the time jumps, though adult Laena being around for more than a single episode would have been nice. Really felt for Viserys as the episode came to a close. He's slowing being replaced by The Crypt Keeper, but his time as a relatively listless ruler has also been buoyed by the genuine love for his daughter and family. He really just wants all of them to get along and live happily, but that outcome was never in the cards. Also, was that kid pulling a Homelander out the same window Tommen took a dive from?

god I’m an idiot. I knew that Larys implied that he was responsible for the fire and that Lyonel and Harwin were killed in the fire but I never connected the dots that Larys was Lyonel’s son and is now Lord of Harrenhal

The lighting wasn't the best during that episode. I understand some scenes were shot during the day and digitally made to look like twilight or at night, but they could have done a better job so that it was a little more visible.

I'm glad you mentioned that. I thought it was my HDR settings at first. The scene with Aemond sneaking up on Vhagar was extremely hard to see.Sam's Drunk Dog wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 4:04 pm The lighting wasn't the best during that episode. It was def dark... We were watching in the dark so I think that made it better, and the tv downstairs has good HDR and all of that, but it was still dark. THere was an episode in the last season of GOT that was like that.

The Long Night. There were parts of that where it was pitch black with basically zero visuals at all. It was almost like they were trying to save money.skullman80 wrote:Source of the post THere was an episode in the last season of GOT that was like that.

this is funny considering I was the person dodinting about the cinematography early in the season but…
I didn’t mind it when they did it in the Long Night and I didn’t mind it in this episode. As long as you don’t abuse it and use it all the time, I think the darkness adds a strong air of mystery and almost terror. I think that can really add to a scene as long as it’s not overused
I also didn’t know Aemon was going to the dragon until it was very obvious but I think that made it more intriguing

There’s a fine line between mysterious and unwatchable. I don’t even feel like they used it for any sort of cinematic effect except that “it’s night so it should be dark.” It doesn’t use blackness like The Descent or when the Bride gets buried alive in Kill Bill Vol 2. It’s just poorly lit.
This is my first and only complaint about the cinematography in House of the Dragon though.

The HBO Max social media team already had a canned response to darkness complainers, so they were prepared.
