If you go the whole house surge route, I installed an Eaton CHSPT2SURGE last year. Requires a 2-pole 15a breaker, ideally located closest to the power input, if you can.

Well they showed up this morning and stuff is going out. Fingers crossed. The more you post in here, the more I think my contractor has changed the name of his businessBathroom reno starts Monday. Contractor back in Ovtober told us it would be a 2 week job. Wifey said when he came by last week to revisit before the crew comes Monday “so, two weeks then?” Ge said, “Uh, did I tell you two weeks? This is a bigger job than that.” Not a ton of confidence right now and it isn’t even started yet.
Did your floor get finished?

They finally showed up today after ghosting me for two weeks. Said they'd have 4 guys, 3 showed up, one left to go to another job. At least they are here. Fingers crossed they finish it all by tomorrow. It's been over 2 months with our first floor rearranged.Well they showed up this morning and stuff is going out. I ran to the electric supply store and bought three replacement breakers at lunch. That fixed the circuits. My chest freezer is shot, it shorted out as soon as I flipped the breaker. And my HVAC system is online but throwing codes, luckily it's under warranty and a tech is on his way out for that.
We just bought the freezer, it's too small for what we need, and we're about to buy another one so that's probably as lucky as I can get.

My goodness... I've never been in a house when a roof is getting put on. 6 guys on the roof with nail guns going to town is quite the sound. But it's cool to see/hear it being done.

I really like the Frigidaire upright freezer that I bought earlier this year. Got it for a really good price, and it has plenty of space. Auto defrost, too.

I'm working with my roofer to have them come over the week I'm in NC. They said they can tap into the power of my A/C unit and don't actually need to get into the house.

You don’t have any exterior outlets beside the AC?
Home Improvement Thread
I do but I assume they want to use the AC power panel because it provides 240v.

Yeah, we had our roof replaced about two years ago - COVID summer. I was working in our bonus room, which is inches from the roof. It felt like I was working inside of a base drum for two days.

Our neighbors had several pallets of roof shingles dropped off, which means the roofing company will be working when it's 100-101 air temp, heat indices in the 110s. Ugh, nasty.

Through not quite one full day online with ye solar, we are on pace to generate right around 2.5k kWh of power over a month. Our peak monthly consumption last year was 3.5 kWh.

How's that tree doing @dodint?

Good. Looks like a collection of shrubs have taken up residence on the main limbs. Kinda goofy but it's healing.

I want to add an outlet to the exterior of my home on the far side of my patio (think opposite the door/house). Of course I didn't think this through and landscaped/poured the patio already. Would the best way to do this be to drill through my header board in the basement and run conduit that way?

I tied into an existing exterior outlet and ran conduit along the edge of my patio. Buried it 30 inches

Was the existing outlet on your house/siding? I'm not sure how I'd get the wire from there to the new outlet to be hidden?
Home Improvement Thread
Oh neat, looks like they make a thing called an "extension box" that I can run a flexible conduit off of.

Has anyone recently swapped craftsman tools with warranty? I have 2 impact sockets that are cracked. However I do not believe they still make the impact sockets I have that need replaced, so I'm not sure how they will replace them.

After getting a $9k quote for installing a chain link fence, it looks like I'll be doing it myself. I struggled not to respond with a series of laughing gifs.
The materals will probably come in around a grand to do it on my own. 9k is insanity.

I put in about 300 feet of fencing in December sometimes during the snow and didn't hate myself doing it. One of my coworkers designed it and it's pretty darn easy to use.
