I will say I think football coaches just generally suck at clock management because every team I've ever followed has sucked at it

I'm curious as to what others would give Franklin as far as an overall grade thus far into his tenure.
I'd give him a B+. Certainly room for improvement, but I'm not busting down the door to have him fired.

B-. Great reputation as a recruiter. Losing record against not only Ohio State and Michigan but freaking Michigan State. Inexplicable losses ala Illinois this season happen but he has his team unprepared for those games too often. Only one B1G championship game appearance, and that was in a season where OSU went to the playoff instead of PSU.
What I would like to see:
I'd say in this division you can't win it every year but except for the aforementioned season OSU flat out wins it every year. What I want to see now that he has the extension is let's say .400 winning % vs OSU and a winning record vs everyone else in the division. Tired of giving OSU the best game they get in conference every season and losing. Win it more than once out of eight tries.
Make B1G Championship game (Win it because the West sucks) and get to the CFP once every 5 years. Make NY6 bowl game 2 out of 5 years. 1 out of 5 Outback or Citrus. 1 out of 5 wonder if it will be New York, Nashville or Vegas. This is that 1 year
I don't aspire for them to have Alabama levels of success because that's not realistic. I don't know, maybe what I stated above isn't even realistic. He's a top 10 paid College Football coach, higher than Ryan F Day, for that this is what I expect.

I think I’m in that same grade area.
Positives:
-No scandals or rules violations. Kids stay out of police blotter for most part
-Program didn’t slip at all after sanctions
-Won a conference championship
-3 NY6 bowls in 4 years
-Good recruiter, sells program, players graduate
-Game 100 is Saturday, has won 2/3 of his games
Negatives:
-Poor in-game coaching and decisions
-Failure to develop a competent offensive line, which is the engine that makes an offense run - despite being on the 3rd OL coach
-Failure to have a backup QB ready and developed - Levis was capable but he was way too one-dimensional. Any other backups have been very subpar
-Worrying too much about finances and logistics in season rather than letting that set until the offseason - this won’t change just because he signed for 10 years.
It all depends on where you think the program should be. If you’re happy to be Pitt and maybe make a conference title game every few years, we’re there already. But if you have higher aspirations, and I’m sure that’s almost all of us, they aren’t where they should be. Yes he’s won 66% of his games but he’s 7-16 against the big 3 of the division and 2-13 vs top-10 teams. Plus the way that they’ve lost some of those is what infuriates fans and in my mind, keeps him from an A grade.

Missed 27 yard FG. Nice.
Hope JF saw what could have been done to OSU with an adequate OL.

Well I expected a couple blowout losses amongst the OSU-UM-MSU trio, and they were in all three games. Better than expectations doesn't feel very good though.

This was me before the Wisconsin game. Pretty accurate. QB was an issue. I think had they played Veilleux instead of the other kid against Iowa, they win that game and potentially have a different outlook the rest of the season.I think they win today and disappoint us later in the year. But that’s just my gut feeling.
I don’t think this is a national championship playoffs team, but hopefully with the recruiting classes we have coming in, it’ll turn into one.
The biggest question for me right now is qb. If Clifford can put together a good season, this could be a really good team.

Me on October 4, post Auburn
12-0
I think 8-4 as well. @Wisconsin, vs MAC Champs, vs Auburn… some way to start. Can’t fault the OOC this year.

No result between 12-0 and 9-3 would really surprise me, but I would be surprised now if my original 8-4 came about.

Outback seems like a pretty good bowl all things considered. They were talking about Las Vegas, Pinstripe, or Music City. Not sure we deserve New Year's Day.

Yeah, "Penn State travels well" so no doubt we will be like lemmings off a cliff for this one. Personally I wish it was one of the aforementioned non NYD bowls because my daughter and I want to go to a bowl game (before she's not interested in going with me anymore) but we have plans for New Years. I'd have gone to NYC or Nashville.it's college football, so $$$ >>>> deserving

The Arkansas fans may actually outnumber PSU fans if that’s possible. It’s their first bowl game in a few years and first one in Florida in a while. The ticket availability on the Outback Bowl site was pretty low when I looked at it yesterday.

Arkansas was almost universally picked to finish last or next-to-last in SEC West. The team had a 'no-name' coach - while the big names (Kiffin, Leach) picked schools that people here consider inferior. So the level of excitement after the 8-4 season (which included the victory over the 'hated' Texas) is huge. I'm pretty sure that there will be tons of fans headed to the bowl game. The Arkansas fans may actually outnumber PSU fans if that’s possible. (And yes, it's funny that my better team plays on December 30, while my less successful team got a January 1 bowl...)
