Spot on. A college student should be embarrassed if their parent is calling their professor.

Maybe they're not in for a rude awakening. I once had a 35 year old man's mom call me to beg for his job back.

Most college professors won’t/can’t even discuss student affairs to parents of students. I don’t see why the parent’s profession would change that.

I don't think my mom ever even knew what classes I was taking, never mind professor names.

Reminds me of a college professor who took a button down shirt out of the new packaging, removed the pins and cardboard, put the shirt on, and went to work. I think my buddy dropped out of engineering because he was afraid that was who he was going to turn into.Depends. Yes, unless it was an article of clothing that no one could have tried on, or it was wrapped in plastic but doesn't have crease marks.

I don’t understand why you don’t wash something before you wear it. I can’t think of a good reason

Underwear in sealed plastic packaging.Reminds me of a college professor who took a button down shirt out of the new packaging, removed the pins and cardboard, put the shirt on, and went to work. If it's a visible article, it gets washed pre-wear (absent emergency, like you got caught in an unexpected rain and bought a jacket). Things like socks and skivvies go straight on.

But why? You can’t wait two hours to wash and dry a package of new socks?

I was at a track event in Texas two years ago. On the second day, I wore the event shirt that they gave us. At the end of the day, my entire torso and arms were covered in heat rash where the shirt was. That's never happened before or since. I blame the shirt not being laundered.

I am not running a wash cycle for socks. Also the socks and underskivvies I wear are packaged, so they aren't really dirty to start off.But why? You can’t wait two hours to wash and dry a package of new socks?

Do you seriously trust that underwear factories are clean enough that you'll put their product against your ballbag and your crack unwashed?

That's why you wash the socks and underwear with the rest of your dirty laundry.

I’m not sure why this is even a thing. All clothes get washed before being worn unless you have no easy way to do so.

This started because my wife was grossed out that I wore a button down from the Gap without washing it first. But, I wear an undershirt and it didn't have any wrinkles. It was either that or iron a shirt and lord knows that wasn't going to happen.

You just described me!Reminds me of a college professor who took a button down shirt out of the new packaging, removed the pins and cardboard, put the shirt on, and went to work. My take is that a piece of clothing will never look as good as it does when it is brand new, unwashed. That's why I "strategically" use the brand new dress shirts for really important meetings - when I need to look good....
(I have to admit that I haven't been to an actual clothing store in almost 10 years. I buy everything online (including Books Brothers, Nordstrom, 7 for all Mankind etc. - so all my clothing items come wrapped in plastic...)

But like. Why didn’t you wash it?

To be clear, yes I generally always wash all new clothes before wearing. But I'm fine making an exception for socks and skivs if they're packaged. Yes I'm fine trusting the hygiene of something that's been sealed up for however many weeks vs something that's been out on a shelf or rack and potentially tried on.

I assume you wash fruit? But a bag of prepackaged apples wouldn't get washed?
