So you’re telling me that if I can experiment and blend up the proper ratios of amber-orange coloring, candy corn, root beer, blood orange, dark chocolate, and vodka I can effectively recreate Pappy?

A friend of mine who likes bourbon did some work for me and I'd like to buy him a bottle. 75 to 100 bucks. Any recommendations what you'd like to receive?

Two bottles of Four Roses.
Do you happen to know what he likes? Basil Hayden’s, Woodford, Blanton’s, and Jefferson’s Reserve are all favorites in that range.

Bourbon is tough because availability and price can vary so much depending on area. At that price point, something that’s got a year on it. Some ideas:
Booker’s 7
McKenna 10
Bulleit Barrel Strength
Heaven Hill 7
You could also do something like Whistlepig, but that may be over 100. Jefferson’s Ocean is also an option, but think that’s more of a novelty and I wouldn’t pay what it costs.

To Four Roses. Especially single barrel. Is Blantons easy to get there? Very hard down here. Two bottles of Four Roses.

Only county in the state with a liquor store currently has Blanton’s is Philadelphia.

Had some Espolon tequila this evening with grapefruit juice and a lime...and lots of ice. Really good summer drink, as long as you like grapefruit.

Stopped down to Victory last night for dinner. First time we had been there since before Covid, and I had forgotten about the collab with Southern Tier.
Has anyone tried any of these?

Yes and I didn't think they were good. ST can still make a decent beer here and there, but they went downhill after they got rid of OAT, Choklat, and Mocha. Their cocktails at the distillery were pretty good though
Picked up a bottle of Michters US1 and Old Forester straight Rye.

That's what I was afraid of. Feels like they are going for the diversification over quality route. Hate that they are both owned by a big conglomerate now.Yes and I didn't think they were good. I second McKenna 10. But as a gift I'd most prefer one of the Aged at Sea Jeffersons. It has penache. And it's something I rarely convince myself to buy but I do find it excellent so it's a treat.

Thanks everyone. Got a four roses small batch and a Jefferson. Came in right around $80 so we're golden. Preciate yinz

Highly recommend Devil's Juice. Smells and tastes like a campfire. I know that doesn't sound appetizing but it really is delicious. Sip it. Don't shoot it. You've been warned.

Yea. That stuff is pretty good if you like smoky liquor. I can only drink it in small doses because it becomes overwhelming otherwise.

My wife got me a bottle of Jefferson's Aged at Sea as a gift. It was pretty good, but I don't think I'd buy it for myself.

The Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is excellent. Tons of caramel and vanilla. Definitely on the sweeter side of bourbons, but honestly from my memories this is one of the closest bourbons to Pappy Van Winkle 15 that I've had recently.

Double Oaked is great. It's been too long. I always go for something new but should remedy that. And Jefferson's very old/very rare is great also.
