I'm guessing Texas is using some very linear logic here. China doesn't like it, the Iranians done like it, therefore, it must be good.

I think it's that it's been in the upper 90's for a while and all the AC units are pressing the energy supply. They need to ask for conservation so that they can get supply to meet demand, I am pretty sure that there have not been any power lapses, just the "please conserve" ask, which indicates the stress on the system.Isn't Texas amidst another blackout or something where they're asking people to conserve energy? That should go over well when they roll into town full force.

A family divided.
My boys got their first Pfizer shots yesterday at Walgreens. No side effects.

You best start applying for grants… unless you’re gonna fund it completely out of pocket.

COVID-19
in a piece of good news, the AP just released a news article that unlike the dolts in Manatee county, 70% of adults older than 27 have gotten at least one shot. That is very excellent news. Less excellent is that the rate for 18-24 year olds is 47% and for 24-37 is only 53%.
that type of info is pretty interesting to chew on and also is just another example of how extreme everything this pandemic is. i know anecdotally that my cousin (right out of school, college athlete, great shape) got his shot, but only becuase he was in the pharmacy to pick up medicine for a bee sting or a phyiscal or something like that. I'm guessing for young people, it has more to do with apathy than anything else.

As the Delta variant picks up speed in the US, we're going to see more and more of those stories like Manatee County. The good news is that there are free and widely available vaccines that prevent hospitalization/death/and even most infections. As you said, MIMH, it's Darwin time.

Yup. My wife's parents still are not vaccinated, and her mom is pretty hardcore anti-vax. Her dad is super reasonable, so not sure what he is waiting for. She's actually gone off the rails even more over the last few years, and I am genuinely concerned for her.As the Delta variant picks up speed in the US, we're going to see more and more of those stories like Manatee County. We're at a whopping 37% vaccinated in good old Somerset County and 44% of those 18+.
