In the kangaroo household, we refer to these types of ideas as mom theories. In general, a mom theory is a crackpot idea that is based on some true fact but is unprovable, harmless, and silly. Other examples of mom theories:This is probably a weird and oddly specific take but, has anyone noticed celery tasting differently as of the past few weeks or so? I snack on celery a lot and it is starting to just taste odd.
-Pringles sends all the packages with crumbly chips to Wal Mart
-My cell phone gets better service when the tablet is not right next to it
-The chinese sent stinkbugs over to america on purpose
-Giant eagle doesnt get "real" islays chipped ham (one of my mom's original mom theories)

Are all mom theories GOP theories like all squares are rectangles?

As someone who worked as a grocery stock boy age 15-17 from 2003-05 I can confirm that we got a lot of joy out of shaking the boxes of pringles. In the kangaroo household, we refer to these types of ideas as mom theories. What’s different about the taste of celery? Is it a different brand of celery? Perhaps grown in a different location?

I remember reading about a fungus or something that was slowly killing the "normal" variety of bananas that we eat in the Western Hemisphere, and scientists were racing to produce another variety that will be fungus resistant, but it will taste completely different. Not sure where we are on this, but maybe celery is having the same issue?
I always have some at home and haven't noticed any difference.

The problem with bananas are that every single cavendish banana tree is genetically identical. The way they "plant" a banana tree is to just take cuttings from a mature tree and "plant" those... I think via some sort of splicing technique. Anyways, the asexual reproduction of bananas means they're identically the same (or at least very very very very similar). When they produce sexually (via seeds) they can mutate and keep up with certain diseases. With them being identical, there's no disease protection.I remember reading about a fungus or something that was slowly killing the "normal" variety of bananas that we eat in the Western Hemisphere, and scientists were racing to produce another variety that will be fungus resistant, but it will taste completely different. Celery goes to seed and is planted (in nurseries before being transplanted to fields).

Isn't that how apple orchards are maintained as well - from saplings rather than seed? Seem to remember reading a bulletin board at our local orchard that explained the process. The problem with bananas are that every single cavendish banana tree is genetically identical. Yup... if an orchard orders 100 honeycrisp trees, they don't get seeds... they get sticks that are just cuttings from a honeycrisp tree that they splice to the root system of something else.

We have an apple tree in our backyard that is grafted, and produces what looks to be two different varieties of apple at different times of the year.

I can remember my grandfather doing tree grafting when I was a child. I forget what trees he was doing it on. I think he was maybe grafting nut trees. I want to say he actually once won some sort of "farm show" type award for his walnut trees, or something like that.
Apples are different in that there is a ton of varieties and genetic variability, and new types of apples are being constantly developed. Bananas are all screwed if there's a major disease outbreak, and IIRC we got the Cavendish variety to begin with because a fungus devastated whatever variety of banana was being farmed before.

just went to put some chicken in the crock pot only to discover that the Ziploc bag containing the chicken wasn't fully sealed so there was gross chicken goo in the fridge. luckily ya boy the kangaroo is cool under pressure (unlike certain goaltenders in the 412 area code) and resolved the situation peacefully. still, it is gross, and it is also my girlfriend's fault for not being careful with that grossness when she put the chicken in there earlier this week.

Always flip that Ziploc seal upwards in the fridge. Never tuck under or straight out.

Also, invest in some 1/4 sheet trays. Containers for containers.
