And if they have to raise prices by $1 I can pay that.

Does it really seem like I'm taking anything here personally? You come in here with a ridiculous take, then people react to your ridiculousness. This is obviously the wrong thread for the SNL talk, but this same thing happens with your political takes too. Just because people respond to a bad take doesn't mean we're taking it personally.i don't. you guys take this so oddly personally. When you say that Steve Martin and others of his time are not funny, you do so expecting outrage.I think the outrage over opinions on TV and Movies is probably the worst party about post-nobody 5AF

I think this is where Tif's argument about the democratization of content creation comes into play. The ability to create and experiment with television makes it so bland network television tasked with appealing to as broad an audience as possible can't compete with niche stuff.I'm not engaging at the individual show level. SNL is bad and it doesn't affect me at all because I don't watch it live start to finish. What gets me is that it's a symptom of just how plodding and lame society is as a whole. Whether it be Big Bang Theory, SNL, the endless police procedurals, whatever. The fact that they move along unchecked for so long demonstrates there is a market for mediocrity and that bums me out.
i don't. you guys take this so oddly personally.

Yes, exactly. I just wish the falloff for the bland stuff would be more precipitous.
Ellen shouldn't be a thing, let alone have multiple shows. But here we are, because of inertia, basically.

TV has mostly been a garbage wasteland since it's beginning. There is just more of it now but there is also a lot of good content now.
Politics And Current Events
Those things wouldn't be a thing if people didn't watch them and advertisers didn't pay to air commercials during their time slots. I wouldn't blame Ellen, Big Bang Theory, NBC, or SNL (though you know where I stand on this one). I would blame the morons who watch it. So, in the case of SNL, me.

Yeah, that's kind of my point in the music thread. It's like Syndrome in The Incredibles..... when everyone's super, no one will be.

I kind of disagree with this. Yes, anybody can create content now, anybody can go "viral," and there are more outlets than ever before in the history of entertainment. But still, as the Macho Man once said, the cream rises to the top. For as many shows you guys dislike, there are hundreds/thousands more that have been made/written and nobody has come close to seeing. Think of how many Twitch channels have "made it" and are actually making money as content creators. Now realize that there are 9.2 million active streamers on Twitch. Just because these people can make content, it doesn't mean that people will see it, and it certainly doesn't mean that those that do get seen are inherently bad or that entertainment is worse off now than it was 20 years ago.Yeah, that's kind of my point in the music thread. It's like Syndrome in The Incredibles..... when everyone's super, no one will be.

The audience is not super, most people barely function and require the television stimuli to keep the brain nodes pumping. So they need network to pump out nonsense 24-7Yeah, that's kind of my point in the music thread. It's like Syndrome in The Incredibles..... when everyone's super, no one will be.

yes. it does.Does it really seem like I'm taking anything here personally?
because people don't go "WHAAAAAAT!!?! You're WRONG!!!!!" when someone says a subjective opinion about something that doesn't matter. the Up discussion from last month was definitively you guys taking it personally that i thought a movie that made you cry was stupid.

The world is not a better place because there are 500 hours of content uploaded to YouTube every minute of every day.

... this is a message board where people post opinions and then other people respond to those opinions. I don't think you understand how conversations work.yes. it does.Does it really seem like I'm taking anything here personally?

The vast majority of those hours are completely unseen, forever stuck at 1 view (the creator). The fact that everybody can create things now is a good thing and like I said, the best of it rises up and is seen. The world is not a better place because there are 500 hours of content uploaded to YouTube every minute of every day.

I mean, there's He's not my style and then there's 'brain damaged." Anytime somebody posts a take saying "objectively" is also full of ****.

If you mean that good stuff can get made and then buried by ****, you're definitely right. I agree with that.I disagree with this partthe best of it rises up and is seen.

Yes. Therefore the best does not always rise up to be seen.If you mean that good stuff can get made and then buried by ****, you're definitely right. I agree with that.I disagree with this partthe best of it rises up and is seen.

Yeah that can be true. I do think that if you're consistently putting out better than average content, you will get noticed. Unfortunately, sometimes it's still not enough. You need a combination of talent, luck, hard work, and self promotion. Even if you dislike some of the large content creators, the majority of them got there thanks in large part to a crazy amount of work.Yes. Listened to a former Clinton official talk about this on the Joe Rogan podcast. It's wild stuff.

Ladies Man is Farrell's best role.Ferrell as painfully unfunny...nowhere to go with that.
Like...Old School is a pretty great movie, still, and a lot of it is because of his particular style of comedy. If you’re saying he’s just irredeemable, that’s a dead end statement.
Comedy ages poorly, so a show that’s been on for 40 years is gonna be a minefield for this type of discussion.
...but also, Steve Martin was a good comedic actor who could read lines well but he was never that funny of a person and neither were most people in his era. #DeadEndPoint

i've used the word "subjective" today, but not "objectively". so yay me.
...but anyway. that SNL thing from 4 or 5 years ago where they had all the homages to old bits. most of it...."IT WAS NOT MY STYLE". like why was that gilda radner rosanna banana or whatever it was...why was that a thing? where were the jokes? i still don't get the king tut thing either.
