COVID-19
Looking like LA County will move to the least restrictive Yellow tier as early as Thursday this week. No new COVID deaths reported on Sunday, which I think is the first time we've had a zero death day since March last year.

why did people want to go to church in COVID times? is it because it's an enjoyable past time or is it because of duty? or just like...something normal?
really bonkers stuff looking in from the outside. what's the psychology?

why would you not if its something thats important to you? masking and appropriate social distancing showed to be appropriate safe guards for indoor gatherings in large spaces

Perhaps you could use some of that massive pile of empathy that you claim to have and love to tell us about.why did people want to go to church in COVID times? is it because it's an enjoyable past time or is it because of duty? or just like...something normal?

1. in the catholic church, a popular interpretation of the commandment "keep the Sabbath holy" is "you must physically attend a church and consume the eucharist".why did people want to go to church in COVID times? is it because it's an enjoyable past time or is it because of duty? or just like...something normal?

2. I think a lot of people are scared by the pandemic and being afraid is a catalyst to seek religion
3. A lot of Catholics believe that remaining loyal to God >>> dying. Life on earth is temporary; ascension to heaven is infinite.
note I'm only speaking from the Catholic perspective since that's what I grew up on. Not saying all catholics are like this or only catholics but a very large portion of them

define empathy...participating in an elective activity that is likely to kill some portion of the elderly in your community?Perhaps you could use some of that massive pile of empathy that you claim to have and love to tell us about.why did people want to go to church in COVID times? is it because it's an enjoyable past time or is it because of duty? or just like...something normal?

churches, in general, are also poorly ventilated which is a bonus.
this isn't me dogging religion. but all of us stopped doing things we enjoy for the last year and it wasn't a tough decision. but going to church is somehow a special thing that you have to keep doing?
perhaps you turn to insults because you have no point

Good use of your empathy pile.
I'll sit back and just wait for the inevitable rant you go on, denouncing what you don't like and patting yourself on the back for taking the high ground.

Also, yes. Yes it is for some people.but going to church is somehow a special thing that you have to keep doing?
Personally I wouldn't have attended church in person this past year unless it was outside had I still been going. But if there were masks worn and distancing was followed what's the big deal?

It’s me dogging church goers, if anyone. Religion is there. You can worship wherever. If you think that you need to be inside a building and doing it with friends I have no respect for that position. It isn't?define empathy...participating in an elective activity that is likely to kill some portion of the elderly in your community?Perhaps you could use some of that massive pile of empathy that you claim to have and love to tell us about.why did people want to go to church in COVID times? is it because it's an enjoyable past time or is it because of duty? or just like...something normal?

We as a country failed at COVID. This phenomenon is one of many reasons.

We are church goers but haven't gone in person since the pandemic started, minus one occasion where they had a service in the parking lot last summer. Also, yes. Yes it is for some people.but going to church is somehow a special thing that you have to keep doing?

Churches are an interesting cross section of Covid-deniers, anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers but also strict mask users, vaccinated folks, and those like us who haven't gone during the pandemic. What's even more interesting is it appears the lead pastor is more on our side of things with mask wearing and vaccinating, but has done a good job staying out of the political side of the whole thing.
My wife attends a mom's group with the church, and things got really weird there. Basically the same cross section, but the anti-mask women are much more vocal.

I don't think so. The problems came in the places that did not require masks or distancing. Anecdotally, I've seen a fairly decent overlap of church goers and people who downplayed COVID. Masked up and distanced, there's no reason why you couldn't have indoor service. I also like that many churches provided a virtual feed for those who didn't feel comfortable attending in person.is there data to suggest that indoor services that required masking and social distancing contributed to the spread of covid?

I am grateful to be in a church that despite being evangelical and conservative, was extremely cautious and continues to be with in person worship. Only recently have they started having people back, and it's still very spaced out, etc.
Our pastor and assistant pastor were two of the first to get the vaccine and have been vocal about that too which is nice. A big part of one of the sermons back in December was how subscribing to conspiracy theories is not Christian and makes the rest of us look bad.

Ours has been doing the Twitch route since last March.
