I'd seen footage of Martinsville in the 70s, and it had already changed greatly from that 1964 shot. What a different era that was.

Martinsville looking a bit quaint (1964).
I count only 17 cars, maybe 2 on pit road, and maybe another by the scorers stand.
Meanwhile, what seems the most interesting to me is that there's not so much as a trailer in the infield, doing it Saturday night style.

how fixed. Busch wins.

(Seriously - the caution for the tire in the grass... after all green flag stops were made... when they could have just closed pit road and not bunched the field. Even if I had a thought they might be serious after stage racing, this just smacked of being unserious.

I can't believe Cup is having a race on Mother's day, a traditional off-weekend

Wasn’t the Mother’s Day Race an annual thing until a few years ago? We have to change our entire semester calendar around it because of a shortage of hotel rooms for graduation ceremonies that weekend.

Oh, the Goodyear Blimp flew over my house this afternoon. So that’s cool.

This last race was about as close to late 90s/early 00s NASCAR you could hope to get. Green for the last 100 laps, dominant car from Truex, no garbage cautions late etc.

Now just get rid of stage racing. It's worse than the old truck series "halftime".

Stage racing does make it hard to watch. I turned on the TV yesterday and it was 2 laps to go in Stage 2. Which meant lots of commercials and standing around for the next 20 minutes. I ended up watching a movie instead.

Yep. I could live with the moronic "playoffs" if they got rid of stage racing.

It was exciting watching Larson creep up on Truex only for MTJ just to find another gear and run away.

The year they let Kyle Busch win it despite missing half the season was the "jumping the shark" moment for me.

Turned on the Coke 600. Looks like an awful, boring race. Contrast to Indy is striking.

And this commentary team is not good. Bunch of chuckle heads. Mike Joy deserves better.

The Saturday race had three current drivers in the booth. Harvick, Logano and a 3rd. Guess the pros need a day off now and again, but it was awful at times.

The 600 has had a bunch of laughers in recent years. Truex leading > 380 laps in one of them.

I have been watching a lot of clips from the Dale Jr. Download podcast recently. He is a really solid podcast host and the conversations (that often center around 1980s-2000s NASCAR) are often great.

For example, this is a great interview with Ty Norris, Dale Sr.'s former trusted lieutenant at DEI, talking about how DEI splintered after Sr's death. Theresa Earnhardt was a b**ch on wheels.

The back tracking of “she didn’t ask for all that responsibility” was kind of funny. There’s also very little chance he could have saved DEI at that time, I really think he needed the space to mature first.

I listen every so often if he has a good guest.

The 2004 season really hid the departure of Norris. But the dustup they talked about that led to him being gone certainly had ripple effects.

NBSCN has been airing episodes of the Download cut into an hour-long block, which is usually where I end up seeing them. Despite the audio being downloaded in iTunes since they started doing them years ago.

When Justin Marks announced the formation of the Trackhouse Racing Team in October of 2020, he promised to be a disruptive and courageous new force in NASCAR. That vision continued on Wednesday with the announcement that the Trackhouse Entertainment Group will expand its NASCAR Cup Series team by acquiring Chip Ganassi Racing’s NASCAR operation.

Marks, along with Trackhouse team president Ty Norris and Chip Ganassi Racing CEO Chip Ganassi, revealed the move at the NASCAR Hall of Fame on a live stream on NASCAR.com. Trackhouse Racing will acquire all NASCAR equipment and the two charters from CGR, and the changes will go into effect after the 2021 Cup Series season.

I'm not a big NASCAR guy but Justin Marks is a cool dude. Best of luck to him.
