got me thinking how many guys went 9 no hit but it went to xtras and got pulled or gave up a hit in the 10th? also reminds me of rincoln and cordova's xtra inning no hit.

It also reminds me of the baseball related nonsense when people didn't want to recognize Roger Maris breaking the home run record because he had 10 extra games to do it.

But really, it speaks to how confused MLB is about its product. 7 inning games are stupid for major leaguers. It is stupid to not recognize an accomplishment in a sanctioned 7 inning game. Conclusion: MLB sucks.

From the wiki about Haddix’s non-perfect best game ever pitched.
In 1991, Major League Baseball changed the definition of a no-hitter to "a game in which a pitcher or pitchers complete a game of nine innings or more without allowing a hit." Under this new definition, Haddix's masterpiece was one of 12 extra-inning no-hitters to be struck from the record books. Haddix's response was, "It's O.K. I know what I did."
So at least 12 were retroactively canned. Given how MLB handles pitchers now I can’t imagine many have been added to the list.

If you pitch a whole game (as scheduled) and don't give up any hits it should be a no hitter. Not madbums fault they made it 7 innings and instituted a 10 run rule or something

Amazing that the Angels have Trout and Ohtani and they are still hopelessly mediocre

When Williams had his great season, he had the uncanny ability to throw his crap fastball right down the middle and somehow get guys to swing and miss. That magic wore off a while ago and now ol Trevor is giving up bombs when he (frequently) throws fastball right down the shitter

Marty Foster. Let’s name f’ing names in these things. That runner had no business being on the grass in that situation. None. You see those two white lines on the dirt? THAT’S where the runner belongs on a routine play like that. You see something like this and you wonder if Marty needed a base runner there to help a bet. I’d have been tossed from this game and probably suspended for comments afterwards had I been manager.

Angel Hernandez supposedly lit up baseball Twitter again on Tuesday night with some of his ball/strike guesses in the Reds-Dodgers game.

This thread and the parenting thread are the only reasons I need to never become a referee/ump in any sport. Not that the refs are right in either instance, just that it takes quite a bit of ****** baggery to become a referee and want to stay a referee.

Foster’s side of the call. Makes it even worse after the explanation:

I reffed little league baseball once when I was in high school. I got eaten alive by parents because I was uncertain of a lot of my balls and strikes calls

a lot of refs sucks but parents can go **** themselves too

Yeah. His comments show a lack of ability to learn and self-critique. Might be better for him to find a new profession.

Haha I wrote that with you in mind. You are one of the few outliers.

I ref'd intramural deck hockey in college. There were two brothers that had no skill, but were fast and played dirty. Their team won a lot of games because other teams were afraid of them.

I'm ref'ing one of their games, and gave the older brother a penalty and warning after checking a guy. He does it again, except this time he drew blood. Kicked him out of the game. He and his brother both drop their sticks/gloves and come after me for a fight. They never got to me, but I haven't ref'd anything since.

Umpire 101 is the base path is whatever straight line the runner chooses (minus heading to first, which is ironic considering the last video that was posted in here).

This call was 1000000x worse than the Milwaukee one from the other night, which is really impressive.

That umpire - Jose Navas...gotta keep naming names - had zero angle to make that call and really made no attempt to get himself in position to see that there was no tag.

Shame to see that call go against the Phillies.

That said, the Phils lost to the Mets last night again in hilarious fashion. The Mets scored six runs in the eighth to go up 8-4, which included this hilarious sequence:

The Phils almost came back in the ninth but a home run was (correctly) called back as it hit the railing which is in play, and Bryce Harper struck out with the tying run in scoring position to end the game.
