Vermont was an independent country until it entered the U.S. as a state.

Weird. Do they talk about it non-stop as if it comes with birth-right entitlements to act like an asshat?

That's one of those things that always gives me a chuckle about Texas. They are not the first state admitted to the Union after being an independent territory, nor are they the most recent. But, you know, Six Flags n'at, yeeehaw.

Bryan May's guitar, the "Red Special" was entirely homemade in the mid-60s and uniquely designed to provide his signature sound.
I fancy myself a music nerd and somehow did not know this. Many of you probably did but for me it's a TIL.

he’s also got a doctorate in astrophysics
I’m a huge Queen fan and while I never really considered May to be an alltime great guitarist he’s still really good and a hell of a songwriter

Yo-Yo Ma’s concert cello was built in 1733 by an Italian luthier, Domineco Montagnana.
Albeit it’s probably the ship of Theseus at this point but still, that’s really cool
Also valued at 2.5 million

This is common with symphony regulars. Their instruments can cost more than their home. Many of them will buy their own seat on a plane when traveling. It’s crazy.Yo-Yo Ma’s concert cello was built in 1733 by an Italian luthier, Domineco Montagnana.

I vaguely remember him leaving it in a cab several years ago, but obviously managed to get it back. That must have been nerve wracking.

It looks like Ma owns it outright. Many of those famous instruments are owned by museums, foundations, or wealthy collectors and are loaned to prominent concert musicians. The Nippon Music Foundation, for example, owns close to 20 Stradivarius instruments that it loans out to musicians.

The Private James Ryan from Saving Private Ryan was named for Cornelius Ryan, the Irish journalist who wrote the seminal histories of WWII, including The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far. The story was based on the Niland brothers, but Spielberg felt it sounded too German to be a film title...

That is a solid TIL. I've always thought the Bluetooth logo had a very runic look to it.

Neil Young doesn't even really like Neil Young's Heart of Gold. Too middle of the road, most of it.
