My 12 year old wanted to rewatch The Rise of Skywalker the other night, so I obliged him. Hard to believe that only came out in December 2019 or whatever it was. Usually, I get something new out of a rewatch...I liked it less the second time through. (He and I rewatched Endgame over the last two nights, and that was great - picked up a few things I missed the first two times I'd watched it).

My initial reaction to the Daisy Ridley thing is that I would've been much less snarked by "I'm Rey Skywalker" if they hadn't spent the preceding 2 hours forcing me to deal with "She's Rey Palpatine". I know they felt they needed something big in the wake of Carrie Fisher's untimely passing, but this was like having a choice between dunking your head in a bucket of liquid poo or chugging whale vomit, and instead deciding to do both while rubbing your face with shards of broken glass.

Unfortunately, for reasons that will forever elude me, they didn't storyboard the entire trilogy before making the films.

It really does boggle the mind, since they had a working blueprint with Marvel Studios.

Rewatched Rogue One. Is there an in-universe/kayfabe explanation as to why we don't see Imperial security droids (like K2S0) in the OT?

What the actual f**kballs is 'kayfabe'.

Anyway, the only Imp installation we have any real experience with in the OT where security droids might even be considered needed is the shield generator on Endor; every other Imperial interior space we encounter is a vessel or a Death Star. And considering the only indigenous species we encounter on Endor are sentient Teddy bears, maybe they decided to nope that idea.

What the actual f**kballs is 'kayfabe'.
In professional wrestling, kayfabe /ˈkeɪfeɪb/ (also called work or worked), as a noun, is the portrayal of staged events within the industry as "real" or "true", specifically the portrayal of competition, rivalries, and relationships between participants as being genuine and not staged. The term kayfabe has evolved to also become a code word of sorts for maintaining this "reality" within the direct or indirect presence of the general public.
I buy that explanation. Side note: I always forget how good Rogue One is.

Rogue One is simultaneously the movie with the least Force users and yet carries the most significant message about the nature of the Force. I'm not ashamed to say it's my favorite SW movie; it's the only one in the series that engages me as an adult, not as a grown up 10-year old. (That's not a criticism of the other movies, btw, just a recognition of RO's secret sauce)

It's easily my favorite of the Disney era. I can't put it above Star Wars and Empire, though.

The Ewok movies, Tartakovsky's Clone Wars, and part of the Holiday Special are coming to Disney Plus

The LEGO SW Holiday Special needs to be canon. It was super fun and enjoyable.

OK, Aunt Beru is there too. Forgot who they got to play her in the prequels. Ice Cube Jr. too.

I'm looking forward to Christensen redeeming himself. Hopefully we get some flashbacks with him as Anakin.

So with Owen and Beru in there, we're getting a baby Luke too right? Hopefully they don't make him a Grogu-type character. Actually, that would be hilarious. They should do that.

I like that cast.
Agreed. I feel like Hayden gets a bad rap. As I got older it was clear all the actors were working with the material they were given. I also get the feeling he was “coached up” on his emoting which made everything come across as forced and over-emoted.

I say this because I thought he was at least decent in Jumper.

I haven't seen it in a long time, but I remember really liking him in Shattered Glass. Lucas has never been an actor's director.

What are Lucas’ talents as a director?
