He'll need to consistently put up those numbers to make the contract make sense to me.

Seems pretty unlikely. Unless he continues to be awesome with Phil Kessel, then maybe...Bonino is going to be a $5 mill player, isn't he?

Marchand is apparently looking for a 7-year, $49m deal. You won't be able to convince me that this would not be a massive overpayment.

Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't be handing out that kind of deal to almost anybody...but if you want to make a case for Marchand, you probably could by using some convenient comparables...Marchand did finish 6th (!) in the NHL in goals last season, he's a rat on the rink that you hate to play against and he's Patrice Bergeron's partner in crime on the PK...coming off at $4.5 million into UFA status...if I'm him, here's my chance to really cash, as he's unlikely to have a better season than the one he just had...nearly 40 goals...
AIUI ( ), only ES goals/points/shots matter, his 27 ES goals was 4th last season behind Alexander Ovechkin (31), Patrick Kane (29), Vladimir Tarasenko (28). That's elite company right there...

I know he's scored a good amount of goals, but I still have this gut reaction that this is a bit of an overpayment.

More than a bit, I'd say.

Jarnkrok signs for 6 years, $12 million. Now that seems like a bargain.

Sens almost had to pay Hoffman. He scored 27 two season ago and they gave him a one year "proooooove it" deal. Then he scored 29 this season. Pony up or let him ride off

Petr Mrazek (Det) 2 yrs, $4 mil per
Mike Hoffamn (Ott) 4 yrs, $5.1875 mil per
Vladislav Namestnikov (TB) 2 yrs, $1.9375 mil per
Danny DeKeyser (Det) 6 yrs, $5 mil per
Calle Jarnkrok (Nsh) 6 yrs, $2 mil per
Brandon Manning (Phi) 2 yrs, $975K per
Jarnkrok goes with the "you're a cheating doofus in a video game" deal...soft-spoken and under-appreciated, Jarnkrok is a pretty versatile player, good two-ways, he's already a bargain at that rate notwithstanding if he gets any better...goes for $12 mil guaranteed and that's that...the ultimate, "I'm not betting on myself" deal...but good for him, obviously that's his choice...
