"Half of Catholics attending Mass 28 years ago no longer do, figures show"
(Not unique to Philadelphia, just a handy illustration of how Catholic ideology is quickly falling out of favor in modern times.)

I'd love to get a solid number of the people that adhere to idiotic trad cath beliefs. 100mm is an insane number to throw out there.Well, 74m still voted for Trump in 2020 so the morons are definitely out there.

They picked a speaker who told their graduates exactly what they wanted them to hear, good for them both.
I can individually hold the opinion that he espouses beliefs that belong in the dark ages, and is a major hypocrite for banging the drum of masculinity while touting his masculine by association profession and spending the GDP of a small nation on his beard care.
But he can sure kick the hell out of a football.

Well, the Census estimates there are ~52million Catholics in the US.
So just double that and assume they're all hardcore traditionalists, obviously.

Those fabulous gay latinx? Absolutely not.Do they interview all the Latinos coming over the border too...?

Yup. Looking at that particular chart it's a steady decline. The abuse scandals (and pope) didn't seem to have any real impact. It's just a steady march to the grave. Congregants leaving behind grateful heirs that no longer have to pretend they like going to mourn their religion for an hour each week.I wouldn't be surprised if half of Catholics attending mass 28 years ago no longer do so because they are dead.

Around 30-40% of the country is devoutly religious, regularly attends church, opposes same-sex marriage (yes still), and otherwise likely holds views that would be compatible with what Butker said. If not a third of the country, we're still talking about tens of millions of Americans.

tbh Catholicism isn’t the right “measure” because Protestants vastly outnumber Catholics (a quick google reveals that it’s about a 2:1 ratio) and often times Protestants (depending on the sect) can have a lot more traditional views
an interesting thing I’ve also read is that American Catholics are a bit more “old fashioned” than European Catholics which I can see. Like there’s more of an alignment with American evangelism than there is with the actual Roman Catholic Church. I feel like you’ll see this with the crazies who think Francis is the antichrist because he is empathetic towards LGBT people

Nope. But I should think it means that you shouldn't be butthurt when they say stuff that you disagree with, because just as you are entitled to think they are idiots with stupid beliefs, they are entitled to think that you are an idiot with stupid beliefs.Let's assume that's correct and 30% of the country are idiots holding onto outdated beliefs. Does that mean the other 70% shouldn't mock them when they say stupid ****?

I guess it depends how you define "regularly" - this 2021 poll shows 31% attended monthly and 25% weekly. I can't imagine that number has increased since 2021.source?

I’m only seeing one butthurt poster here

I'm all for them being able to say whatever they want. I'm also all for them facing whatever consequences they might face due to their bigoted idiotic beliefs. In this case, I doubt anything comes from it other than the majority thinking he's an idiot.
