You know why they build those off days early in the schedule, right?I was telling my wife this morning that MLB does this stupid thing where there isn't any games (or only 1-2) the day after opening day. How every year I go and get excited for baseball after that first game, and nope...no game. She looks at the schedule and says "The Pirates are playing tonight at 7PM." Good. I always hated the "day after opening day off" nonsense. Why MLB make me look bad with my wife? I do that enough without any help.

And why they wouldn’t build a day off for a series played in a domed stadium?

It never occurred to me to do that for weather, so opening day wouldn't be postponed. I feel shame.

Moving on to game 2.
AJ Puk is making his first ever start. I've never seen him, but I think he's like a long lefty with a funky delivery. Hopefully Olivares starts, seems like he should have started over Rowdy yesterday.
They pulled Luzardo very early last night, I don't think they'll be as cautious with Puk (just in the sense that Luzardo is I think their only non-injured guy that is part of their regular rotation, so they maybe babied him to make sure they don't lose him as well). But even so, I think they'll be happy to get five from Puk, and he'll have to be cruising to get through to the 6th, considering this is his first ever start.
I'll be keeping a close eye on McCutchen, pretty pathetic performance yesterday.
Hopefully Perez gets through six. It will likely come down to the bullpens either way, and the Marlins had a bunch of guys throw a lot of pitches yesterday. I guess that Ortiz will be unavailable (fine), but otherwise everyone that threw yesterday should be fine. They were all like 11-14 pitch outings.

Based on body habitus, I’m questioning whether Ortiz can handle back to back work days.

I think he’s likely in line to piggyback falter on Sunday, meaning falter will have basically no leash.
Sounds like bednar is like days away, but Chapman is fine to close. Just going to be how many outs can Borucki get everyday.

Although with the amount of starting pitching depth we have I can understand dealing from a position of strength

Assuming this is sarcasm. I would say that they do have a lot of bad rotation options. So dealing from that depth is fineAlthough with the amount of starting pitching depth we have I can understand dealing from a position of strength

I agree with everyone.
Brubaker is just a guy but I don’t think this organization is good enough to be trading just a guys

We had four Brubakers (Brubaker, falter, ortiz, Gonzales). Now we have three

Hayes makes an error (something no one says often) and turns two on the next batter. Baseball is funny
