those are always the weirdest "what if"s (an actor being offered a part that is otherwise iconically played by their replacement)
I could absolutely see Candy as a Ghostbuster but definitely not as Moranis' character
Will Smith being offered the Neo part of hte Matrix is the one that gets me. I love Smith in certain roles (MiB being my favorite) but it hurts my brain to think about him in the Matrix where it's played so perfectly by Reeves

I've heard Nic Cage and Will Smith are like the two A-list actors with the longest list of major "you turned down that" roles.
Cage apparently also turned down Neo/The Matrix, and that was within a few months of turning down Aragorn/LOTR. Now, I still have a hard time comprehending they not only offered Aragorn to a plethora of other actors not called Viggo Mortensen, they actually went through pre-production and shot scenes with another actor for a whole week before deciding to move on. But............ I mean, imagine the utter lack of emotional weight this scene would've had
if it were the "NOT THE BEES" guy.

Speaking of Nic Cage, I watched Dream Scenario the other day (Nic plays a professor that is showing up in a large portion of the populations dreams, seemingly randomly).
I really wanted to like it but it just didn't work for me. It was only 1hr40min but the last hour makes it feel like whole thing is over 2hr long.
There were some really good parts and I don't regret watching, but it just doesn't deliver on its premise I think.

Yeah there are some wild what ifs out there. Harrison Ford was offered Alan Grant in JP, John Travolta turned down Forrest Gump, Jack Nicholson as Michael Corleon, Robert Redford as Superman, Elf was originally written for Jim Carey, and so on.
Movie Thread
Elf with Jim Carey would've been an incredible improvement.

No thanks

All of those are objectively worse. lol (especially Elf/Carey )
Although the Gump/Travolta one makes for some funny mental mashup images of the Vincent Vega confused gif.

Everyone has a "I've never seen that" list that dumbfounds people. The original ghostbusters is on that list for me.

I don't know if I mentioned this before or not, but I was 8 when it came out, and my family went to see it in the theater. It scared me so bad that I couldn't sleep that night or the next night. The demon dogs terrified me, and I was sure there was one in my closet. To that point in my life, nothing I had ever watched scared me.Yes, everything about how GB84 turned out was practically perfect in every way, and any changes to story/script/casting.... any of the known 'alt' versions, really, would've lessened the final result.
Fast forward about a year and my neighborhood friend is having a sleepover. They had rented GB for us to watch. My mom had to warn the other mom that I might freak out, and I was briefly not going to sleep over. They decided to let me give it a shot, with the caveat that my mom would come get me if needed. Watching with friends took all the fear away and replaced it with just laughing. I loved it and made my parents buy it. Watched it over and over, and to this day can pretty much recite about 85% of it. It's still my number 1 nostalgia movie.

That's great. My first theater memory is GB2 and watching from the aisle near the door because it was so damn scary that I often had to run into the hallway. I must've been 5 years old and Vigo had me shook.

I def saw GB2 before GB1 (was born in 83). Pretty sure I saw GB 2 in theaters with my grandfather. He also took me to see the TMNT live action movie.

We had GB1 on VHS so I watched that constantly. I then got super into the cartoon, which lead to me seeing GB2 in theaters. Now that I think about it, my reaction to GB2 in the theater was probably the reason why my mom did not allow me to see Batman in the theater a few weeks later. I was so mad at her for that.

I'm not even sure why GB1 is more of a nostalgia trip for me since I saw GB2 first, but it definitely is. I just remember as a kid having everything Ghostbusters...firehouse, ecto-1, proton pack, trap, movies etc. It was my first obsession with TMNT not soon thereafter, then Jurassic Park etc. Much like my Nintendo Chest and Nintendo power magazines I am so mad at myself for getting rid of all of those ghostbuster toys especially the firehouse.

Ghostbusters: First movie unchaperoned with a friend
So that was a good month in 1984. (I guess I was 11, not 10... sue me)

"First movie unchaperoned with a friend" has to be Twister for me. I went with a hockey player friend and we left that theater wanting to buy Dodge Rams and chase storms.

Haha, a tornado touched down in Blair Co a short while after that movie came out, and I got to the point of sitting in my car to go follow it and my inner voice was like "what the actual f**k are trying to do here, dips**t".

As pure entertainment value goes, I really enjoyed it.Just rewatched GB Afterlife. Choked up at the end again. My wife was crying her eyes out. Forgot how fun that movie is overall.
Will be seeing Frozen Empire tomorrow. Don’t care what critics think to be honest.
(No spoilers) I'm a long time GB fan, and from my perspective as someone who has written two science fiction books, I think they tried to do too much with bringing in a few unnecessary new characters. They may have sacrificed some of the great character development that took place in Afterlife by doing so.
Therefore, I won't say the new movie is perfect... but as a GB fan, it was everything I could have expected from a GB movie in 2024. We're 40 years out from the original film, and Frozen Empire is pretty darn good.
