Yea it does not. I worry more about the coming yearsthis doesnt make the steelers worse next year
The big positive is the tons of cap space they have right now. I want a corner, safety, ILB and maybe center in free agency

They effectively have to sign someone for all of those positions, and maybe WR (cause they're also going to probably trade Johnson).
I wonder if they do something with KC where they trade Johnson and a pick for Sneed.

I think a lot of people are just ignoring the fact that Russ is a pretty, pretty good QB.
The guy is getting paid tons to play somewhere else. He ain't that good.

Trubisky and Pickett were so pathetic that when we saw Mason come in and actually play QB at a passable level, and everyone's jaws just dropped.I'm sure he is an upgrade over the statistically worst QB in the modern era, yes.
Granted the Bengals and Seahawks were playing pathetic defense at the time, but still, the former two were pathetic regardless of the quality of defense.
Then Mason obviously looked like a backup when they played the Ravens' second team, and the Bills. Not terrible, but definitely a backup.

Do you not understand how the salary cap works?I think a lot of people are just ignoring the fact that Russ is a pretty, pretty good QB.

Well I understand that they Broncos traded the farm for him, he performed poorly and was cut by that team.
Cap really has nothing to do with it. He's so detrimental to that team they'd rather cut him and pay him like $40mm.

Their decision to trade for a declining Wilson is considered one of the worst trades in NFL history. And the baffling decision to give him an extension is why they doing this now. They are letting Payton start over with some runway. Wilson was being paid like a top 5-10 QB in the league. They are clearing that out.Well I understand that they Broncos traded the farm for him, he performed poorly and was cut by that team.

It's not like Stidham beat Wilson out for the job. They are choosing to tank / eat the Wilson money now to accelerate the rebuild. So they cap kind of has everything to do with it. You can't win with a 35 year old wilson at a 40mm cap hit. Something 2024 Broncos should have told 2022 Broncos

I don't believe you can win with a cheap 36 year old Wilson either. Yet to be seen though.

Actually, I take that back. Nobody understands the NFL cap.

“Bad”, but exponentially better than the ‘23 Steelers quarterback room
Steelers 2024 Offseason Thread
Yea I will agree to that, if he's "bad," then it speaks incredibly poorly to KP and the gang lol.
I do wonder what he's like in the locker room. Him and GP seem to be completely different lol.

I’d wager if he’s kept to 20ish attempts a game and the team runs the ball with the shockingly effective run game there should be a positive outcome. Running would also allow the defense to take a blow and maybe not get injured so easily…I don't believe you can win with a cheap 36 year old Wilson either. Yet to be seen though.
Too much optimism I know.
Steelers 2024 Offseason Thread
Or, they run so much they get sucked into long 3rd downs and they keep pushing the defense to death like they've done forever, lol.
Steelers 2024 Offseason Thread
Competent QB play - just run-of-the-mill average stuff - gets them............... half a dozen more first downs a game? 7-8 more points on average? Takes pressure off the D? (Maybe even makes them more effective by dictating play calling and forcing the bad guys into passing situations earlier) It ripples.Last year's team made the playoffs with horrible play calling and historically bad QB play. Assuming both are better this year, and the defense is just as solid, they should easily be a playoff team.
None of that is even specific to Wilson. Just a generic 'better QB'.
Steelers 2024 Offseason Thread
Marshawn Lynch had to call his agent to get to Russ and wasn't allowed to have his personal number, if that tells you anything

So many are quick to give KP a pillow because of Blame Canada, etc. Look at the buffoonery Wilson had when he got to DEN, go revisit some of the stories from that 2022 season. As a person with a non-rooting interest, some of what happened with that team was objectively hilarious. And for whatever reason, Sean Payton came in and from the word Go did not want anything to do with Wilson. Wilson was not benched because of poor play, he was benched because the Broncos didn't want to activate a financial trigger in his contract. (Part of me is curious how much of Payton's slagging of Wilson was pretextual, because from the moment he arrived he was eyeing a rebuild.) And through all of that, Wilson was better than what the Steelers fielded at QB.
We'll certainly see, and I don't think it will take long. I reckon by the time players hang up the pink cleats for another year, we'll know if it's gonna work or not.

If Mac Jones gets you a 6th round pick, what does Kenny bring?

If anyone is calling about Kenny it's to do a welfare check on him.
