Any Chess Players?
tomorrow at 2 it's the final of the speed chess championship - magnus v. nakamura
you still can't believe the former's 22-4 -no loss- win against one of the best players to have ever lived on this planet and i wonder if there will be any ramifications for naka's brand when magnus cleans his clock too?

I love when opponents get confused when you try to sac a piece...
Really tried to give him the rook as I played Rxb4, but he thought it was too suspicious I guess, so he attacked the knight instead? Fine by me. I found the mate in 4, but there's also a mate in 3 with black to play. I made him take the rook.
The analysis gave my move a brilliancy... BRILLIANT!

Can anyone recommend a good Android chess app? There are roughly eleven billion or so. Is there any particularly good one that stands above the rest?

Yeah. That showed up on the lists I browsed. So that's good.
I guess I should probably state what I am looking for in an app. I enjoy chess, played a lot as a kid. But never developed and am not a strong player. I want to play mostly offline and get some feedback on how I can improve. I am happy to purchase an app if it does that kind of thing.

I've heavily considered trying out chessable. John Bartholomew is a strong international master and does a lot of coaching... he seems to be one of the brains behind to give an automated chess coach/chess lessons program in app form. If I were to suggest any of the many out there, that might be toward the top of the list.

I really enjoy John Bartholomew's youtube channel. I used to watch especially his 30-60 minute videos. He'd spend nearly as much time going over the game with and without the engine as he would playing the game. I found that watching guys like him helped me tremendously.
I used to practice against the computer a ton but then play friends or family that were beginners and have trouble defeating them easily. After a year or so of watching videos but not practicing I found I could destroy weak players over the board. That's all i was looking for lol. Seeing enough mid game evaluations just made the board so clear to me.
I believe learning end game first is the way to go. Don't get bogged down in it but just the basics so you can win an easily won game.
And far and away the most helpful book I've read was Weapons of Chess by Pandolfini. It gives you the 5 to 10 tactics to look for in middle game. Very simple and useful. His student Waitzkin wrote some decent books but was my main teacher through the xbox game Chessmaster which had a freaking incredible and endless tutorial. I keep planning to break that back out and see if it works. I was sick when it wasn't backwards compatible for the 360

Speaking of content creators.... one of the best (in my opinion) youtubers/streamers just played an incredible game in the Reykjavik open:

I loved watching Simon. It's been years though. I was heartbroken when freaking Ben Finegold crushed him in a 1v1 streaming event. Ben's trash talking completely overwhelmed Simon. He couldn't get Harry going

Here’s my analysis on the championship so far.
Nepo is going to kick himself for not being disciplined enough to play for draws when he loses the entire thing.

No Magnus, no interest. They’re just playing for the prize of “guy who would have been beaten by Magnus”.

Todays game may break Ding. Missed win after missed win. A bluff for the ages. Leaked prep. Craziness.

I think my hotel would be smashed to pieces if I was Nepo after today’s game. Lol.

Forked king, queen, and both rooks. White is completely forked.

Well, there's the Royal Fork and I was trying to think what you'd call this and 'completely forked' is perfect
