I am guilty of drinking from streams too often. That said, only mountain/fast flowing streams that don't run through civilization. I'm sure that doesn't help much but that's one of those irrational hiking pleasures I enjoy.

When we were in Alaska my brother in law drank glacier water right out of the lake. Didn't realize that wasn't a good idea til he googled it haha

Given the proliferation of acid rain I'm only drinking from streams as a last resort. Even the springs that are tapped with plumbing, like at Linn Run, now have warnings on them.

I always filter water taken from streams/lakes, no matter how remote. The higher the popularity of the area (Laurel Highlands hiking trail, for instance) the better chance I'll boil it too.

It's been a heck of a week to be an archer in the PA woods. Near perfect Temps, weather and conditions for an insane rut season.
Tuesday after work I just needed to get in the stand. I finished up at 4 and my son took a nap, so I literally took the baby monitor to the stand 100 yards from the house (hooray for wifi monitors lol) and within 25 minutes I was able to bag a nice 8 point. My first deer I've ever harvested on my own property.

Made it to the hunting lodge. We are near Paradox Lake, it is just beautiful up here. Wanted to make a run up to Lake Placid today but I think the arena is closed for renovations

Has anyone gone to the Pittsburgh RV show? Is it worth admission? We are thinking about upgrading our camper at the end of the season and thought it might be something fun to do with the kids also.

I went pre pandemic. I had a ton of fun even though we don't own a camper. Plenty of class A motorhomes and 5th wheels if that's what ur looking for.

We decided against it yesterday and probably won't make it down today. Maybe next year..

Been thinking about this today. Maybe because it's winter or maybe I feel like spending money on something stupid, but I'm starting to yearn for a camper. So I'm going to ask you (or anyone else with a camper) a bunch of questions. We decided against it yesterday and probably won't make it down today. Maybe next year..
Do you think you get your money's worth? And do you leave it at a campsite , park it at home, or store it somewhere ? How many weekends do u actually use it?
I'd have to trade in my outback for either an SUV or truck that can tow. Plus I'd have to pay to store it. And I'm too value oriented just to buy one and enjoy it. So I dunno what to do.

I can't help answer your questions, but I've been yearning for this for years. For your last point, F it. It's a recreational vehicle. Buy it, move to Montana, and get a second wife.Been thinking about this today. We try for 5 trips a summer to justify our use. I also take some trips with the guys in early/late season. I like my first trip of the year to be just guys so I can iron all the wrinkles out or at least identify them.
I got a pretty good deal on my camper before the market exploded. I feel like it's coming back down to earth this year.
I do not leave it at a campsite. As you know I am in BF Fayette County and have plenty of space to store it on my property. There are campgrounds who will store it for you. Most do actually. I've found that I don't like to be tied to one particular campground, I like to go all around. I've seen campers stored literally everywhere though, like those self storage places, roadside parking lots, etc.
You would need at least something with 5k towing capacity I would say. Those little wolf pups and R Pods are like 3500 lbs dry. A half ton truck would be your ideal vehicle and you could get a camper up to like 6-7k lbs and have no problems. That opens you up to 28-30 foot ultralites and those without slides.
I know what you mean. I am value oriented too. You have to put some value on relaxing and memories. Because for a family of 4 to go for a 2 night weekend trip it's like $300 minimum between fuel, campsite, and we go a bit overboard on food but still.
Any questions you have I'll gladly answer.

My camping schedule this year is:
May 4-7
May 26-29
June 8-11
July 12-17
August 24-27
October 5-8
I haul it out east for drag races in September and we will probably take it one weekend fishing in April. A first for me this year, I'm trying to get it up to state college for a football game labor day weekend. So I get use out of it.

Yes I'd generally be looking at something like an aliner, r pod, or something that could sleep 4 or 5 people. I feel like the baseline for a vehicle would be a Honda passport (5k towing) or a Nissan frontier (like 6.5k or 7k or something). A half ton is probably not in the cards for a few reasons. i need to just sit there and do the math instead of being so wishy washy.

Don't do the math you won't buy one then
I do it because the kids love it. My son counts down sleeps til we go camping. And there's just so much for them to do. It's only going to get better too, as he's almost at the age where we can let my one buddy's kid (second grade) take them to a playground and we don't have to bother. Camping people are so friendly.

I got my word on my bonus last week, so I'm feeling even more like wasting money. I love the r-pod layout, but given the height, would that tow ok behind a frontier?
Outdoor Activities
Seems as if it will. Looks like some folks add in a rear spring helper airbags. I've added those to a truck before and they aren't too terribly difficult to install. Basically a bladder you jam inside of a coil spring and inflate only when you tow to help prevent squat

Any recommendations for Raystown Lake area? We're looking at Trough Creek for camping, so anything goes. Camping, cabins, hotels, etc.
