He is quickly rising up the list. But he's not broached the Big Four, certainly. He's on a pace to make it a Big Five though...

Has he passed Crosby yet? Crosby should be close to 5 in career value, even with missing time for neck meat during his prime...

People forget how good Crosby was in his prime.

Honestly, I haven't seen him enough. I only watch him maybe 10 times a year and then playoffs. I can look at stat lines and regular season scoring but as we all know stats are for losers.

My man ;)

I consider Crosby the best player on the planet for more than ten years. Around 2006 to 2017. His silverware is a bit low considering how good he is/was.
So I think he should be quite close to Believeau.

You have to really be careful with a player who has not exited his athletic prime...this can create a real sucker's bet...it probably won't be the case with McDavid, but still...

You look at early Stamkos, he was scoring goals at quite a clip...312 goals in 569 games through his age 25 season. He's 34 now, but only has 233 goals since. 233 goals in his first five years (including his rookie year), same number in his last eight seasons.

So, that's why the Matthews goal scoring stuff is nice, but until he's producing after 27, after 30, you got nothin' (relatively speaking)...

Bossy, Lemieux, Orr all were cut short due to injury...

Lafleur before age 28: Six 50 goal, 120 point seasons; Lafleur after age 28: Never above 30 goals, never above 84 points.

You can't project with historical discussions, that doesn't make sense, right? So, taking it for what it is now...you have a player that really passes the eye test, he's very technically skilled. I'm not sure that he's so much better than the rest of the league in his prime than say Orr was in his or Lemieux was in his or Gretzky was in his...and he certainly isn't as well rounded as Howe or Orr.

These are tough discussions while we haven't had time to really digest it and see what happens around him. This thread is getting made in the mix of a 54 points in 24 game stretch...it wasn't made when he had 16 points in his first 16 games this year...and that's the danger, we're taking the upswing of a season in progress, we're still on the upswing of his career...you just can't go there and end up anywhere legitimate in my opinion...
