Why would ottawa have to protect Gustavsson? I don't know if that's right
Expansion draft rules are pretty liberal for goalies.
Skaters: a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played in at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons.
Goalies: One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list.
Gustavvson will be a RFA.

Yeah, just really weird stuff...like, I get that Mete is nothing special, he's all wheels and not a lot else...but I guess after Ghost cleared, teams thought they could just do anything and get away with it...

Those are rules of who fits the exposure quota. Teams need to expose a certatin number of each position, and those are the requirements for that.
To not NEED to be protected (aka: Marino) you need to be in first or second year pro. Gustavsson played in the AHL in 18-19 and 19-20, so this year is his 3rd year pro requiring exposure/protection.

No clue. I mean, he's a pretty soft player...but he doesn't suck at all...not sure why Vancouver has been shopping him for at least a year now...
