Things change. This was just a few seasons from Stevens-on-Kariya being a clean hit. Guys weren’t killing themselves after they retire because of CTE. Head trauma was sort of an “aww that’s a shame” thing.
I wouldn’t take a Cooke equivalent on today’s team and sure - I would go back in time and kill baby hitler and undo Cooke’s contract if it was possible but that’s not a thing, so we just admit he was a joke and act superior to caps fans because we wanted him out after mcdonagh while they’ll stick with Willy until he literally kills someone. Maybe even after that.

I can align my change of hear with the birth of my first kid. I went from, "have your head up" to "respect everyone on the ice at all times" right around when that happened.
