It’s just so weird to me. This guy was a literal anchor for this team for 5-7 postseasons and people love him because he smiles like a mental patient and has the sense of humor of 12 boy. This does not make sense.

My main gripe is that he was so bad at key times here. So so bad and costly. He was the number one cause - by a sizable margin - of playoff exits for what? Two seasons. Four arguably. Pisses me off

I can realize he stunk in big moments for us but also like the guy.

On the flip side, Murray win two cups, should we all love him unconditionally? Do we only root for guys that were good* in Pittsburgh?

Well, you said "here"...which I took to mean just taking his time in Pittsburgh. But a bulk of his case is in Vegas...so, if he was close with just Pittsburgh, then he's probably in with his Vegas career...

Well yeah I meant here. Regardless of if you think he deserves it or not, he's in at the moment. So he was close here, and Vegas tipped him over.

Well, like ulf said, a lot of media types seem to think he's in already...and he's a good guy who played forever. Someone will sponsor him and he'll get in...

Ignore the two big mistakes (Al Rollins and Gerry Cheevers), and Fleury's resume isn't amazing...his entire prime, he was never a top 5 goalie. He ends up on what turns out to be a juggernaut (which he's a big part of) and he added three top-5 Vezina finishes in four years...he added a stellar playoff run, he might be adding a good one right now...he added two top-5 statistical seasons too...all of a sudden, it's turning around, isn't it...?

Now, there's only been six goalies inducted since 1994 (!).

Hasek, Roy, Brodeur are in that group. 3 of the top 5 goalies of all time.

Barrasso isn't in, CuJo isn't in...so maybe that's a line he has to cross first...maybe it's not...more hardware definitely helps. If they gave him a Vezina while they have the chance, and if he wins a Cup, it's probably going to be on merit that he makes it...
