Tomas Hertl - San Jose, 4 years @ 5.625 mil AAV

https://twitter.com/KKurzNHL/status/1013909707021377537
I wonder if he will fully get it together this year...ton of potential but the knee injuries have sucked. I remember how much hype surrounded him when he came out.

Sens have apparently given teams the opportunity to talk contract with EK, who is looking for a Doughty deal. Also, VGK are apparently willing to take on Bobby Ryan to make it happen.

My understanding is that no team has gotten as close as Vegas has...before the deadline and now once again...EK would be mayor by year 3 in Vegas...

What would it take in return? Next year's first seems a given, but what after that? Glass? Suzuki? Brannstrom? Hague? Some combination of those four plus the pick and then what?

It was like a top prospect, two 1s and a 2 at the deadline I think...that price comes down now, though it could get bumped again by allowing extension negotiation...

Rowney’s deal is for $3.45MM over three years. I can only assume Kuhnhackl’s one year deal pays him at least $2MM or he should fire his agent and hire Rowney’s.
The article I saw has Kuhnhackl at 1 year 650k.

Waiting for the "We could have kept Kuhnackl instead of bringing back Cullen?!" replies...

I saw that Cap Friendly had 650K as a placeholder until details were known. For his sake I seriously hope that number isn’t true. Pens didn’t give him a QO but did extend a two year deal to him and then he goes and signs a one year deal for league minimum, which is like 500K less than Rowney is going to make for three years? That is most definitely agent firing time.

I’m still baffled by the Rowney deal. He and his five career goals are making 100K+ per Gibbons, who had 12 goals LAST SEASON, and they were signed at same time. It’s insanity.

At least it's some other team's insanity.

Congrats to Rowney for landing that deal but I am genuinely losing concentration over the fact he got it.

Rowney is a RHS center, Kuhnhackl is a LHS LW. The need for one far exceeds the other.

Using logic to prove stupid people are stupid is unnecessary.

That explains Rowney's contract. Unless Kuhn wanted to stay in the Metro or something, he got hosed. He could have doped VAN into giving him 3 sheets for four years.

Daigle, and it's not particularly close.

James Neal signs 5 year, $5.75 mil AAV contract with the Calgary Flames.
That's... odd?
Talked to boss man (his daughter is Neal's long time girlfriend)... he told me last week he was pretty sure Neal was heading to Calgary. Said it was just the right fit for him of everywhere he looked. He wanted a long term deal and there weren't many teams that were willing to go beyond 2-3 years. His girlfriend is not happy about it, though... and neither is my boss as now he has to visit Calgary rather than Vegas.

Rowney is a terrible center. Congrats you have a right handed scrub who can take SH faceoffs for the next three years while contributing nothing else. If teams truly gave that much of a **** about paying a premium to fill that extremely specific role then Mike Zigomanis wouldn't have played his last NHL games in 2010, 4 years before his career ended.

Bigger bust, him or Daigle?
Versus expectations or just the quality of the player?

I mean, Daigle played 600 games, scored 300 points. He could hang...he just didn't care...

Former Pens ginger scrub Scott Wilson got two years at $1.05MM per year from the Sabres. Everyone but Tommy K out here getting paid.

That's what he gets for turning a 2 year deal down.
