I like Backes (said as much earlier), but would not want that contract.

That's too bad. I know the Pens cap situation is very tight but I was hoping to find a way to keep him around.Lovejoy 3 yrs to NJ

My issue with Lovejoy is that 3 years is too long, IMO. I wanted him for one more year.

I'm not sure that's insane. I think that's about right. Good complementary defenseman. Can play up and down the lineup. He had an awesome playoff. He can slot in anywhere and he's right handed. I think it's a pretty fair deal.

Insane may be a tad harsh, but it's certainly not a contract I'd have been okay with if the Pens had room.

I've gotta go swap the front rotors on my car. I expect every available free agent to have signed by the time I finish.

Im not sure that its relevant to what i asked at all.Has two 30 goal seasons and for all his supposed defensive prowess his 'team' has consistently failed to get it done. He's not elite. ^ million...I'm thinking that's elite's bottom end price. Cripes, Stammer is only making 2.5 more than this guy.Who overrates backes? I would guess most casual fans of east coast teams dont even know who he is...while the massively overrated 32 yr old Dave Backes gets 6 million a year. Are these GM's not nuts?Eric Staal now makes less than Brandon Sutter. That's funny to me for some reason.

Any news on Cullen? About the only one I'm interested in and I won't even be upset if he doesn't come back.

I like it. He's a useful depth guy for a specific role. Last year WBS used: Ruopp, Prow, Goers, Clendening, Warsofsky, Seymour, McNeill, Andersen, Oleksy, Erixon, Pouliot, and O'Neill. Ruopp, Clendening, and Andersen are all gone. Goers is an AHL depth guy. Seymour probably won't be back. McNeill isn't very good. I imagine O'Neill is probably looking for a team where he has a better shot at playing time. Right now the defense in WBS looks like:
Oleksy, Erixon, Warsofsky, McNeill, Prow, Bengtsson, Percy, and possibly Pouliot, with some guys battling for the 7th spot in Pittsburgh (edit: and apparently plus Cameron Gaunce).
