Funny thing is, there's talk they might go to Shero. Had interest in him in 2006.

Surprised he didn't get the opportunity to making a coaching change actually...he had Claude Julien for his whole tenure I think except the first year where Dave Lewis was there...

It won't be long before he finds a job, though he's in no rush, he has multiple years left...

Firing the coach wont undo the Tyler Seguin trade. Neither will firing the GM but it shows that its a personel problem and not coaching.

Sure, but they won a Cup without a ton of help from Seguin...I'm not going to justify that trade, but it doesn't show anything really...Julien did not have that team playing good hockey this year, they were loose defensively, very inconsistent, a generally pulse-less all season long...that's why I figured Julien would get the ax first...and I think he still will...

In other news, Joel Quenneville is healthy scratching Antoine Vermette.

And 2 goalies that made the All-Star teams (Howard, Elliott) are not starting their teams' first games.

There was the largest turnover of playoff teams from last season to this. Do you think that is has to do with more parity through the draft or is it manufactured by the NHL through officiating?

There isn't enough room on the Mrazek bandwagon for me.

You dont think clutching and grabbing has leveled the playing field? I made a point to keep an eye out for obstruction and holding during that Buffalo game. Its unreal what guys get away with against Crosby and Malkin. When I see how they have dipped production wise I have no doubts its more about the way the game is officiated than anything that they can control.

I guess I took issue with your use of the word "manufactured" in the sentence...as if it was by design...

Thats where I get hung up. Its not an isolated instance where one crew is calling obstruction / holding and others arent. It seems consistent across all crews where they dont call it. I know when the NHL resumed from the lock out, there was an emphasis on making those calls. Could it be that now the NHL has put emphasis on not making those calls? I have no idea.

All I know is that the officiating is consistent in letting this creep back into the game. The NHL has celebrated the parity in the league as of late as they should. But if the parity is a result on the way the officials are calling the game then it isnt parity at then its manufactured or manipulated.

Note that the Bruins fired their GM, but not the coach.

Just so the new GM can come in and choose whether or not he wants to keep Julien, likely.

Or we can make up some excuse about them dragging Julien along and not letting him get one of the open jobs or whatever.

I think the increased obstruction is actually a good thing for the overall health of the game.

This will be good, by the time the new GM comes in then Julien will be fired, the Pens out of the playoffs and they can hire Julien. *people's eyebrow*

Firing Julien would be dumb. You won't find a much better coach than him that isn't already employed

So?

If the coach is a problem, it's typically the message, and not how good the coach is.

Even Scotty Bowman was fired (by the Sabres after 86-87).
