The Stanley Cup Playoffs 2016 megathread

Postby Dickie Dunn » Wed May 18, 2016 10:16 am

At some point last night I looked at NHL.com on my phone and saw the Blues winning 1-0 like midway through the first period. This morning I wake up and find out the Sharks won 3-0. Have I been transported to an alternate dimension?

After your nap this afternoon, you'll wake up to find that the Sharks scored another goal and won 4-0. ;)

Hell no. I'm putting an end to this now. Gonna start digging for the tracking device.

Edit: My god. It actually was 4-0. Need to find the assclown that told me it was 3-0.

Edit 2: It was scored by Dainius Zubrus!?!? What year is it?!

That's good stuff. Makes me want to get back to more officiating. That's how you do it too, good communication. I'm always very open to talking to players and coaches, when respectful...sometimes you feel like you're holding the players hostage, but you need to to keep order, "ok guys, we're gonna get up nice and slow here...don't make any sudden movements, nice and slow and we're out..."

It's gotta be so much tougher with the crowds and the blaring music at games...I'd lose my voice in the first period probably...

Some personal favorites not included in that video:

"I can't call that now, maybe if there was 15 minutes left in the first, but not with 3 minutes left in the third, cmon guys"

"Yes his stick hit you in the face, but on your way to the ice I got 2 for high stick because your stick touched his helmet"

"No No No No - that's not late, I clocked it at .568 seconds after you moved the puck... Did he go knee to knee? No... that was just knee on body"

"Look I can't call that - I won't be able to keep that standard up all night.... at least until I know what the score is in the 3rd."

Those are probably not real....

Anything less than a Stanley Cup appearance has to be considered a failure for St. Louis, doesn't it? No Chicago, no LA... this is by far their best chance, and people have been waiting for them to break out for years now.

Did you need to name a team there? I think it applies to both teams, ya?

Here comes Jake Allen. Elliott is bad and has been perforated for bad goals again. This one really stings. 3-0 with 14 to go.

Eh, maybe it's me but I expect more from the Blues versus the Sharks. The Blues are stacked and HAVE been stacked for a long time... they've had Pietrangelo for a good 5 years now, and their core is in their prime. Tarasenko's surge these past two years too.

The Sharks didn't really have that expectation on 'em this year, right? This was supposed to be the year they fell, with the turmoil of the captain situation & so on. Vlasic has always been quite underrated, and Burns hasn't played like this defensively before this year. Their play so far has really exceeded the expectations, IMO, whereas the Blues are finally meeting theirs.

I don't know that I would be focused on goaltending if I'm STL. They haven't had the pikc at all and haven't scored a goal in what, 8 periods? They're getting railroaded all over the ice. I don't know that Ken Dryden and Patrick Roy playing at the same time in their primes would make much difference here. The sharks are putting on a clinic.

Love me some Jumbo.

I bet Hitch goes to Allen because he plays the puck better than Elliot. STL needs all the help they can get trying to get out of their own zone.

Yep, I said the same thing that Allen is an option for that reason. No idea where I put it because it's not in here.

Allen is also a way better goalie. But he adds to the transition game, which the Blues have struggled with in the series. Just two goals in three games in the series...that's not gonna do it, ya figure...
