All transactions here.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenceman Roman Polak and forward Nick Spaling to the San Jose Sharks for two second-round draft picks and forward Raffi Torres.

In case anyone missed it, yesterday the Leafs traded Shawn Matthias to the Avs for Colin Smith and a 2016 4th round pick.

Torres has already been assigned to the AHL. Leafs took him back to help San Jose with the cap. I don't think he will ever put on a Leaf jersey

These picks are 2017 and 2018 picks. The Leafs have like 12 picks in 2016 already...

This is like a Douglas Murray redux for San Jose. Just paying it forward here. Polak is a good, physical shutdown guy that doesn't really wander too much like some others...but two twos is a pretty hefty chunk and you dumped Torres who is like suspended forever or whatever...

Maybe Lou's still got it after all...

The dude is ass cancer, I'm not sure he gets another shot...I mean, getting suspended for like 40 games and that clock isn't ticking off in the minors, then his contract will run out and that suspension will still be active...I think that's all she wrote...

Hunter Shinkaruk wasn't even good in juniors...didn't understand that pick...he wasn't dynamic enough, he did the same move over and over...waste o' turn, waste o'turn...

Washington gets: Mike Weber (50% retained)
Buffalo gets: 2017 3rd round pick

If Weber is worth a 3rd (even at retained), we should have re-claimed Scuderi and traded him for a 2nd. Weber blows...I don't know why Washington needs this player...

There's that thorny issue of Scuds sucking even more than you realize. ;)

Weber is another player that I would have assumed was retired (or dead).

Possibly. But as someone that has seen Weber too...I gotta say, I'd take Scuderi...Weber is probably worse than Cole...

My guess is that John Erskine is gone and therefore they need someone to scratch in the playoffs...

They certainly had the opportunity to raise Scuds up the flagpole (albeit for 24 hours) to get the opinions of Orpik and Niskanen.

Should the Pens have claimed Ehrhoff?

I mean, the thing is is that Weber and Scuderi aren't similar players. By acquiring Weber, they're saying, "we need a physical, big hitter, stick up for teammates, intense guy around..." I don't think they intend to play him very much...at least when the games matter...Scuderi is not really any of those things. I'm just saying, if I chose one from now and forward, it's Scuderi. Because I know at some point he belonged in the NHL...Weber, I'm not so sure about...

@Dickie Dunn - I guess so. I wouldn't have been against it. UFA, cheap dollars, no asset, former top-4 d-man. I mean, where are you going to find that kind of bargain bin price on an asset...let's not forget that Mike Weber just went for a 3rd...Roman Polak went for two 2nds...based on this scale, we should be able to trade Trevor Daley for Taylor Hall...

I still do believe that Ehrhoff will be dealt at the deadline even though he just cleared waivers. I'd be surprised if someone couldn't find a place for him. I just find it hard to believe he lost his job to Jamie McBain and Derek Forbort...I just didn't think it was that bad...he had a few games of ol' Error-hoff...but he also spent time paired with Jamie McBain...that would make anyone look bad. If he was paired with Doughty, not only would he be in the NHL, he'd probably be heralded as one of the "best underrated signings" of the offseason or some other frivolity...

Players can get old and fall off, but players don't just get this bad this fast. He's an NHL defenseman until proven otherwise for me, I'd take him on this team over Ian Cole any day certainly...and with Lovejoy out and Ehrhoff's ability to play on his off-side...maybe that's a die we roll...but I guess the odds, by definition, are unlikely...

He makes $1.5 million, seems manageable.

Huh? The Penguins have at least $1.6 million in cap space. Ehrhoff's salary this season is $1.5 million and is prorated for the rest of the year. There are 186 days in the regular season this year, meaning his daily salary is $8,064.52. If the Penguins claimed him when he was waived he would have been on the Penguins active roster for 59 days, counting about $475,806 against the salary cap. As it stands now, if he were to be acquired on Monday he would be on the roster for 41 days and count $330,645 against the cap.

So probably with that cap space.

Even though I just used his salary in a different discussion last week I totally forgot that he was 1.5 and was thinking 4.5, not idea why.
