1. They need to scratch that name off the Cup
2. As soon as that report came out, Quenneville should have been suspended pending investigation and he would have been on the first plane to NY to meet with Bettman
3. Toews's comments postgame last night were pretty pitiful. As captain, he has a little bit more of a responsibility, IMO, to know what's going on in the locker room. If there was innuendo about something having gone on during that playoff run, he should either nip that innuendo or at least get some background so he can take any concerns to upper management. It's not his responsibility to investigate -- there are other departments that specialize in that.

As per usual in these type of cases, people don't want to deal with the situation. The intern that got groped in the taxi could have easily gone to HR and gotten this guy axed or at least brought enough scrutiny that it would have gotten around the office/organization and maybe somebody pipes up. It certainly doesn't help future victims when upper management, whether it's in a professional sports organization, corporation, college (read about the stuff going on at Liberty sometime) decide to sweep it under the rug. That interview yesterday was difficult to watch and I applaud Kyle for getting in front of a camera to speak out about it.

The Blackhawks were fined $2 mil by the league for this.

Comparatively, the Devils were fined $3 mil for the Ilya Kovalchuk contract.

Gotta love the inconsistencies.

These 2 situations demand…consistency?

Not sure I understand the comparative relationship between those two situations

This preceded the breaking of the Penn State scandal. Important to keep that in mind as that particular scandal had major implications on future reactiveness to sexual assault allegations.

It's more just wondering how circumvention of a salary cap gets hit with a harsher fine than covering up sexual assault and allowing the assaulter to take jobs elsewhere.

Because one is a league matter and the other is a team matter. The league isn’t obligated to fine the Hawks anything. They’re doing this as a response to public outcry. But manipulating the framework of the league’s contract model in bad faith is something that they actually do need to address and de-incentivize.

This here is what they call a “token” act.

shmengy makes a strong point here. These are apples and oranges

“ Strip Jonathan Toews of his captaincy and set the NHL on fire”

Nuance.

I feel bad for MAF. He's basically being used as Dusty Baker.

Imagine being a hawks fan and now people want Toews’ legacy stripped because he, a pro athlete, didn’t do enough in this situation in their opinion. The “C” isn’t what people think it is.

I didn't realize captains were responsible for handling personnel issues

It’s really what you want them focusing on, most days.

“And Patrick. You are the best on the team at putting the black thing in the mesh thing. Thusly, you are obligated to take part in purging the organization’s worst characters. It is not because of your job title. It is because you’re super awesome at stick handling and stuff”

I mean, he knew about it… I don’t really understand why this board is the only place I’ve seen people either indifferent to it or disagreeing with getting rid of these folks who were complicit.

What role did he not serve adequately? It was reported to his superior.
