I don't mean to brag, but my doc told me today "You're likely the healthiest person I'll see today..." and looking over my visit notes, she said my head was "without deformity, mass, or tenderness". So yeah. I'm flying high today.

The head notes remind me of the notes saw in my file when I got a cortisone shot in my toe joint.

I thought my foot was going to explode, dropped multiple F bombs, and almost vomited/passed out. Needed a good 5 minutes to compose myself before walking out of there.

Notes said "Patient tolerated the shot".

I think their definition of "tolerated" vastly differs from mine.
yes, I am aware tolerated in the medical sense means "did not have an allergic or otherwise medically adverse reaction

I also liked that instead of calling me fat, it said "well nourished"

So it looks like I finally got some answers on why my breathing has been weird lately. Luckily, I had an appointment with my allergist this afternoon and we may have narrowed something down after doing some breathing tests.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-con ... q-20058019

So I might have something called vocal cord dysfunction.
Vocal cord dysfunction or paradoxical vocal fold motion (PVFM) is an episodic condition that results when vocal cord movement is dysfunctional. We open our vocal cords when we breathe, and we close them when we speak, sing, swallow or lift heavy items. Vocal cord dysfunction describes what is occurring when our vocal cords close when we intended them to open to breathe. This incorrect vocal cord motion causes an abnormal narrowing of the voice box. The voice box narrowing leaves only a small opening for air to flow through the vocal cords, which can result in a sensation of difficulty moving air into or out of the lungs.

Interesting. Does it affect your speech at all?

I stopped drinking at the beginning of this month. I'm not sure what lead me to want to do it, but I found myself drinking 2...3...4 beers a night all week and more on weekends. The number one thing I've noticed: sleep. My sleep is so much better now.

I don't particularly notice much else, but that alone has got me thinking I might cut back a lot when I decide it's time to start drinking again.

I need to cut back too. My problem is more the amount than the frequency. Which should make it easier? It'll be like once a week and I'll have several.

I'm going about four times a week or so...weekends real hard, weekdays not so much. My toughest thing recently has been Sundays. Sunday morning I get up and I'm pretty hung-titties...I'll get a breakfast sandwich together, get my bets in for the day...and then have a couple of the leftover drinks in the fridge or whatever for the Colts game...but then once I start down that road, it's like, "well, there's a good game on at 4...so..." and next thing you know, you're right back in one...not that I'm hammered, it's just that I'm cruising along on some delicious autumnal drinks (I made an apple cider/vodka pitcher; we have pumpkin beers hanging around, we have these Downeast Cider Donut craft ciders that are the best canned beverage I've had, etc.).

So, I'm disappointed in my Mondays more than anything right now...it's easy to "fix", I just wish I had the same bounce back ability that I did even five years ago...

TBH, gout did a great job at cutting down my drinking lol. I only have a beer or two at trivia on Wednesdays, and keep it to beers below 6.5% (of which there is still enough variety so I'm not constantly drinking ____ Light).

Saturday is going to be the real test. Going to a party at a friend's house and it will probably be more than I've had in one sitting since like... Cinco de Mayo? And I think my foot only survived that by alternating beer-water.

We had a jam packed weekend so I slugged em back Friday Saturday and then Sunday as well. Last night around 4am I woke up and was just like what am I doing to myself.

I’m down to Fridays and Saturdays. Usually only 3-4 both nights. Having kids is what did it to me.

That can't be good for the gout. Has that gotten better?

It went away with the prednisone and hasn't been back since.

I made some margaritas to go with our Mexican food on Saturday night… we enjoyed them while eating and then playing cards (kid was in bed). It was an enjoyable evening, but the sleep was garbage. Is this my life now?

If I have more two drinks at night, I won't really be hungover to a point but I will always wake up in the wee hours wide awake and anxious. That came on in my late 30s

If I have less than three drinks, I'm asleep. If I have four or more, I'm party fuel...

I used to drink like it was never getting made again.

Now I drink 4 beers at bowling one day a week, and that next day is always rough.

This getting old stuff blows. I’ll be 37 by the end of the month. I’ve squatted 400 lbs since I was like 19. I’ve been getting some knee pain after leg days and I’m wondering if the old hinges don’t want to throw that amount of weight around anymore. It’s weird because I feel stronger than I ever have been, but the joints just don’t want that strain anymore. I’ve even done some joint strengthening work, but I don’t know. Might be time to lighten the load

I'm also 37. About 3 years ago I was squatting and had a What the hell are you doing to yourself? moment. When I thought about all the bad things that could happen vs. the benefits, I stopped squatting any sort of heavy weight that day.

I too do not squat heavy weights… I mean, I never did, but I still don’t.
