We did that Friday thing 2 years ago, and it continues today.

...it cut Friday meetings by about 20%. When you’re needed, you’re needed.

New meeting policies went into place this week. No meetings on Fridays at all now (used to be noon-5pm), all hour long meetings should be changed to 45 minutes max unless it’s urgent or for a major project, and 30 minute meetings changed to 25. Part of the driver here is that we have so many meetings now that nobody has a chance to breathe in between them. Surprised they enacted this, but it’s good to see.
We tried this at the beginning of the year. We would just blow through to the 30 minute mark or the 60 minute mark. We also tried "no meetings at all every other friday". I couldn't tell you if tomorrow is an on Friday or an off Friday. I have always done my best to avoid Fridays unless truly time sensitive. I like to do admin stuff, catch up, and bail out early on fridays.

I’m in training all next week, and originally planned on doing a little work before class each day, but **** it. Gonna just enjoy the time away from work and sleep in.

Talked with a recruiter today and told gave him my comp request at 150% of my current salary and he said that's right in their budget for the spot. Feels good man. Now to see if they want to move to interview

What are people's thoughts on recognition systems (outside of bonuses/raises)?
We have a "points" that will get thrown our way if we do something "extra mile" sort of deal for our team that comes from our manager. I get say 1000 points, and I can either use that for something off the company store or towards gift cards.

I got 2500 points earlier this year for helping with a big acquisition onboarding... which translated into 250$ basically and used that towards an Amazon gift card to buy some things for myself.

Just about everybody is a mercenary now that boomers are riding off into retirement. Companies are all about money (there's a reason why the department of "Human Resources" is still accepted terminology). Loyalty is no longer a thing on either side, which is where a recognition system would be useful.
