It’s not a real offer. It’ll be a glitter bomb or something

Do you ever just get sick of people's **** and put your foot down? Rare occurrence for me but I just did.
Got this guy who is habitually and unapologetically late for everything but was adamant that we have a biweekly 1:1 for a half hour (which he's usually late for). Today I gave him exactly 5 minutes before sending a dickheaded message that I was going to drop and he could email me if he needs anything.
Few mins later he texted to ask if I could jump back on and I politely declined. Feels good man

I have no patience for the perpetually late.

My boss hit me up on slack and was like you have a quick minute for a call. I say sure.
He calls me and basically said they were doing market adjustments for some of our positions for people who are on the "lower" end of what the market value currently is and basically said I am getting a 28% raise effective May 5th. I think part of this is honestly to help curb the people that have been leaving for other companies the last 6 months or so...a sort of retention, but I am not complaining.
I thought I was being punked honestly, but he was being legit. I basically took at as an early birthday present at this point...and am still a bit shocked.

I got a similar bump - 12.5%. Also getting a retention bonus of 25% if I stay for two years. Things were bad here for a while, but starting to turn a corner.

28% is no joke man. Congrats!
@robbie I also got a nice bonus, completely and totally unexpected, after a few of my peers resigned
It's a weird market. 8% inflation doesn't help... I got my biggest year end bump ever this year and it still is technically a pay cut lol

@robbiestoupe Nice! Glad things are turning around for you that way too.
If you would have asked me 3 or 4 years ago would I be in this position in my company making the money I do.. I would have called you nuts. Going for the engineer job when I did back in 2019 even when I thought I had no chance of getting it has worked out pretty well.
Things can always change, but coming up on 10 years at the company now the bonus, my initial raise, how they handled my time off when my mom passed recently and now this market adjustment raise along with my boss really tooting my horn and saying how important I am to the team blah blah has actually made me feel really valued.

Sometime in 2021 I got $5k raise based on the market Conditions or whatever they want to call it. Within 12 months I got an offer for a job outside the company with a starting rate that was in the range of Skull man's raise.
I was happy enough at my old job, but talk about insulting your employees.

No doubt. This was after I got almost a 6% raise on my yearly review that just went into effect this past month. So really like 34% raise this year if you count that plus this new "adjustment".28% is no joke man. Congrats!

I do not. This was actually my favorite office setting to work in (if I had to choose something other than home). The building was very old, so the stairwells reminded me of my grandparents' place in Wilkinsburg with the old, wooden flooring. Large, high wall cubes, great location, etc.
That said, I would have never gone back.

That'll be me in a year or two. Our building was opened in 1889, so it has some stories to tell
