The idea of giving any notice is not reciprocated when lay offs happen.

The only reason I gave a notice is so I didn’t **** over my teammates/reports. I don’t care about my company itself

Are you saying about that they had a beef with you before you gave notice or because you gave notice? The only reason I gave a notice is so I didn’t **** over my teammates/reports. I don’t care about my company itself

Kind of complicated. There was something that happened between me and upper management before I gave my notice (has to do with hem pushing people coming back to the office and being tone deaf in doing so) and I think me putting in my notice gave them the push to be like “ok we’ll just make this your last day” todayAre you saying about that they had a beef with you before you gave notice or because you gave notice? The only reason I gave a notice is so I didn’t **** over my teammates/reports. As per what happened, I don’t want to go into specifics because I need to make sure that if what happened leaks that They don’t have a legal claim against me. The law firm doesn’t think they can do anything beyond let me go and if that’s the case then I’m gonna see if any media outlets want to take what I have and run with it

oh it’s pretty dang spicy. so much of it is precipitated by the fact that our company uses “workplace culture” like a weapon and how we’re all a family and then they says some really shitty stuff behind our employees backs

I don’t see how this is spicy. You were a bee on their bonnet and decided to quit so they canned you instead. Am I following this correctly?

Yeah but there’s a potential that I have legitimate dirt on them and a media outlet would like to publish a story about what I have. That could be pretty spicy

They didn’t fire you… you resigned effective a date in the future and they said thanks… we’ll pay you til then, don’t come back tomorrow. This isn’t common, but it’s not uncommon. It’s likely worth it to them to handle any role transitions without you there rather than with you there.

It's called garden leave. It's common enough that there's a name for it. Sorry to burst your bubble mimh

I really interested in this dirt that MIMH has on his former employer. MIMH, can you PM me? I won't tell.

don’t want it out yet but two people (my brother and another former coworker) told me that it could be something the media may be interested in. The idea of that excites me; though it could be a complete nothingburger

Maybe MIMH wanted to change his pronouns and they refused. Hostile workplace.

This happens pretty frequently where I work if you're leaving the company. This is more common, and is likely a nothingburger. They didn’t fire you… you resigned effective a date in the future and they said thanks… we’ll pay you til then, don’t come back tomorrow. I've been doing this for 15 years, and my job is more stressful now than it ever has been. I hear you man.../vent
Background: I’ve been in recruiting for a little over a decade since I left teaching. I know what works and have been a top performer in every company I’ve worked for. Currently I really like my company but we don’t pay our entry level employees dick.
Just got off a call with my area manager where he chewed me out for people accepting other jobs before they start with us and one of his managers threatened to quit if it happened again. I let him know I can’t compete with jobs paying 16-20k more than we offer for the same or similar work. His response was that I should hire them faster so they don’t have a chance to find and apply to other jobs. Clearly they have zero idea how job hunting is done in modern times. Candidates typically shotgun out applications and go with whatever company gets to them first AND pays the most. I have no control over this and it’s insanely frustrating.
/end rant

I had an employee do something feels underhanded, but I'm not sure if I'm overthinking it? He is a manager that reports to me. He set up a private channel that purposely excluded me, because his team wanted a place to ask dumb things without upper management insight. The channel doesn't necessarily bother me (I get the impulse), it's that he purposely kept the existence from me. He was eveb going to invite people who report into me (are not on his team) to the channel, again without me knowing. This would basically give him more insight into my global teams problems than I would have access to. If he had mentioned he was creating the channel I would have only clarified that he must elevate issues he is seeing and that's that.
The only reason he told me is he was forced into it when I had a performance review with him and brought up that one of his team members wanted an "informal" channel.
