Job and General Employment Thread

So, company offered me the promotion I was gunning for as a last ditch counter. Was an immediate hard no right after he finished talking.

I busted my ass the entire year and didn't get it, it's insulting now, that I'm leaving and you want to dangle it.

Agreed, and good on you for sticking to your guns. Let that sinking ship go down without you onboard.

I don't blame him, HR is the fault here. I was put up for promotion apparently and they either denied me, or slow played it. Late is late, I'm not going to burn a bridge elsewhere, and then potentially get cut next year when things stay south because I make more money now and I already tried to leave once.

Super hard no. This is a sinking ship, money wise, morale wise, it's time to play "everyone for themselves."

Right? Like all they had to do was promote me given what happened last year.

We went through a re-org. I was pushing for senior management prior to that re-org when I managed just 4 people. By the end of May, I was managing 9 US headcount and two overseas, and ALSO being asked to produce as an IC. I was very clear the entirety of the year that I was gunning for a promotion and while I wasn't happy for the time being, there was hopefully a means to an end.

January roles around and I get an "acceptable" performance, even after I called out that anyone managing as much as I was in the entire company (I provided examples) was 1-2 bands higher. Right then and there was when I said it's over and I'm scaling my entire effort way back.

It's one of the things that I love about my organization. I've never had to ask for large raises, I've never had to ask for promotions, my performance speaks and the management listens to that and does right by me. Each time that I start working up the courage to ask for a large raise or ask for a promotion, they offer it to me before I have to say anything.

You also work for a company under 200 people right? That's vastly different than a corporation/company with 20K or whatever thousands people all over the globe?

Is having an interview that's scheduled for 30 minutes that ends up going almost a full 60 a good thing? Asking for a friend...

That happened to me last year, and it was definitely a good thing. Offer came the next day.

I've never been one to back out of a signed deal anyways, the only thing I'm flattered about was the fact that I was good enough to get a counter. I've known 50+ people that have left and never received a counter.

Yeah, every interview I've been a part of (on both sides of the fence) that ran longer was always a positive. As part of the interviewing team, you get a sense pretty quickly if the candidate is a clown or not, and it ends sooner rather than later.

Yeah that's rough. If I'm forwarding a chain to a higher up and it's all (or mostly all) relevant info you better believe I'm still summarizing the most salient points they need to focus on and leaving all the scraps as an optional side quest.

Sorry man. It sucks, but hopefully bigger and better things to come your way. Depending on your situation taking some time off to relax isn't the worst idea tbh.

Thanks guys. This one stings because I really enjoyed what I did. I'll have time now to dig up the mini PC I bought, get Linux installed, and start messing around to keep adding to my list of skills.
