And the Rothwell hype train is derailed. Man does JDS look good. Werdum is a paper champion, he's done in his next fight.

Yeah, it's a bit over the top. Just how he was getting rocked by a straight kick-boxer in Mark Hunt and caught a lucky knee. Then fought Cain who is known for cardio, somehow gassed in the first round, and dove into a guillotine just to end it.

Werdum's BJJ is super high level but he IMO won't be able to hang with a guy like JDS in striking.

Not to mention how Werdum was good to go this last fight until his opponent got hurt and then Werdum backed out when someone else wanted to step up citing a previously undisclosed injury.

His coach:

If this is legit that sucks. I enjoyed his promos and his matches were always entertaining. Cant blame anyone for not wanting to get punched in the face anymore, best of luck to him.

I read on r/mma that he took a big hiatus after seeing a friend of his severely injured/paralyzed for a bit after a fighting incident. He was also in the crowd last week for this fight:

He's got money, he's got health, good for him. Get out now if you want to.

I think it's all about money. The other theory I read and likely believe in, is that he got tired of not being paid as the premier player. He's the reason people watch the shows, and has often carried cards by his name alone.

I think we'll see that with UFC 200 unless they can grab GSP to fill in.

He was the cornerman for the fighter that fought the guy that died.

Looks like his "retirement" is a response to UFC and dadhole Dana White refusing some leeway in the promotional schedule. McGregor wants to train and focus on the fight. UFC wants their damn money.

I mean on one side, he signed the contract and was fine with promotions up until he lost. On the other hand, he generates that business gobs of money.

The banzuke (番付) (rankings list) is out for the May sumo tournament:

Image

Endo is back in Makuuchi after an injury in January dropped him down to the Juryo division for March, so that will make the fans happy (Endo is super popular). I think the wrestler to watch will be Shodai at M2E. That rank means that he is pretty much guaranteed to face all of the wrestlers above him during this tournament. Shodai entered sumo in 2014 after finishing college at the Tokyo University of Agriculture (which has a strong college-sumo program), and in the 13 tournaments since he's never had a make-koshi (負け越し) (losing record). Going up against the ozeki and yokozuna will show whether he belongs at the top or not. I'm happy to see Ikioi at sekiwake, although I suspect he's in for a rough tournament. I like the guy, but I'm not sure he's got what it takes to be a regular in sanyaku (三役) (lit. "three ranks", although it now refers to the top four ranks of yokozuna, ozeki, sekiwake, and komusubi).

(For those who may be wondering, Wikipedia says sumo is a "combat sport," so I'm going to talk about it in here.)

Mayweather coming out of "retirement" to fight Connor McGregor? This can't be real.

Let's not discount Diaz' boxing. But yeah Conor would get wrecked in a real boxing match. You're not gonna hit Mayweather. He's just too slick.

Wasn't meant to discount, more of a - he couldn't beat a guy who is an MMA guy with experience in "boxing." He's not gonna fare well against a guy who's 49-0.

That all being said, it was rumor busted hours ago.

Mayweather would get slaughtered. First the gloves are a big difference and second when mcgregor gets his hands on him it's over. Mcgregor may not have much of a ground game by ufc standards, but by "guy who has no mma training" standards he is world class.

Yea "Mayweather" was calling the shots, it was to be purely boxing, and McGregor would have to lose 25lbs.

Going back to conor vs mayweather/diaz...while mayweather is obviously the superior boxer, comparing his boxing to diaz'...diaz is bigger and longer and that was mcgregor's downfall. Mayweather is actually smaller than conor...so it wouldnt be like the diaz fight in that regard.

That fight was stacked against conor which was why i got paaaaiiid.
