Huh, Tomáš Souček is also from Havlíčkův Brod, just like Radim Zohorna. @Tomas

As already discussed in the Penguins thread: :D
@Tomas give us a rundown
Havlickuv Brod = Havlicek's Ford (as "water passage")

Karel Havlicek Borovsky lived in that city. He was a poet/writer, and most importantly one of the faces of 19th Century Czech cultural/national resurrection (against Austria/Germany).

Even though it's a rather small city (~20,000), HB has a hockey team that has yo-yoed between CZE2 and CZE3 leagues. Some pretty good players grew up there (Holik brothers, Joe Vasicek, Radek Martinek, Vitek Vanecek, Zohorna brothers,...)

And it is also the hometown of West Ham United star Tomas Soucek...

[My hometown has quite similar size, and it's not very far from HB - but no athlete of any real importance ever grew up there...]

I'm either very blind or very forgetful, possibly both.

Tottenham supporters group immediately condemned the move. It’s **** bullshit. I’ll find another team to support.

I didn’t see the details of the proposed changes to the Champions League format.
UEFA’s new “Swiss model” for the Champions League is to change the format from a group of 32 clubs organized in eight groups of four to a group of 36 clubs in one large table. The clubs would be ranked by club coefficient and assigned a group of 10 matches against different opponents, five home and five away, with the top eight in the table advancing to the knock-out rounds.
What is with soccer and needlessly **** with things? Hopefully this is all just posturing to prevent UEFA’s dumb changes.

Man City and PSG not being involved in the Super League makes Tottenham’s involvement seem even dirtier.
A further five teams will be rotated in and out of the competition, based on performance, but the permanent members will include six Premier League clubs, three from La Liga, three from Italy's Serie A, two from the Bundesliga and one from France's Ligue 1.
Two from Bundesliga and one from France, yet Bayern, Dortmund, and PSG aren’t participating. Some super league. What a horrible attempt at a cash grab.

Wonder what this does with ESPN's deal to take over to PL in the Fall?

I understand why UEFA is against that.

But fans of the teams involved? We are talking about an activity (kicking a sphere into a rectangular area), that aside from its entertainment potential is completely and utterly ridiculous and useless.

Now, since this is entertainment activity - why not create a top-notch product (similarly to having a series of movies with the very best actors) that will entertain on a weekly basis? Protesting that is like claiming "every movie should have at most 3 good actors, the rest should be from a a local semi-amateur theater."

The point: I'll gladly watch multiple games that pair Juventus, Barcelona, Liverpool, Bayern, etc. against each other repeatedly, week after week, compared to watching PSV Eindhoven, Donetsk, Panathinaikos, Sporting Lisbon, Gent, Dynamo Zagreb, Celtic, or Slavia Prague...

I had no idea Stan Kroenke owned Arsenal. Suddenly makes a lot more sense.

Are you playing devil's advocate? All of this is wrong. I don't even know where to begin.

I'm aware this is a curious stance coming from someone who supports a sports franchise from a far-away community he otherwise has no attachment to.
