I mean...I wanted Champions League back when they were in position and the finish is a little disappointing but I think on Day 1 I’d have been happy with mod table so in that respect this is fabulous.

Hope they don’t **** the bed.

Wish Leicester had held on and all the CL spots were not occupied by Super league teams. Oh well.

EL will actually be quite a strong league. It is nearly impossible for teams from countries ranked worse than 16 to get qualified. Vast majority of the teams in EL will be from countries ranked 1-12.

Conference League, on the other hand, will be the placeholder for teams from the mediocre countries (but each team still gets about EUR 3 Mil from UEFA if they make it to the group stage)

Since you are interested in EL, focus on the green rectangle at the bottom:
EL-GS (Group Stage) will have:

1 ECL (Conference League) winner (nobody this year)
6 cup winners (cw) from countries 1-6
4 teams finishing No. 5 from countries 1-4
1 team finishing No. 4 from country 5
10 winners of EL-Play-Off stage (the rectangle right above it)
4 losers of CL-Play-Offs (the path of league champions)
2 losers of CL-Play-Offs (the path of non-champions)
4 losers of CL-Q3 round (the path of non-champions)

As you can see, UEFA really made it super difficult for any teams from countries ranked below 15 to get to EL. The CL path of non-champions involves teams from countries 15 and better, so the only way to make it to EL-GS for countries 16+ is through the "teal-colored" rectangle - which will feed only 5 (out of 20) teams to EL-PO stage (where only 10 out of the 20 will advance).

The country rating is always based on LAST (not this) year's ranking (so that all leagues know what they play for). So, for the next season, it will be based on 2020 rankings:

Inter seems to be very broke. The English clubs seem best positioned to withstand it, but by most accounts the "Super League" teams in the top four leagues are financially ****.

Speaking of being financially ****...

AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave the Serie A club when his contract expires next month, director Paolo Maldini announced on Wednesday.

He would have commanded a ridiculous transfer fee and now he's gone like a fart in the wind.

Only in Italy? This would have happened already in Pittsburgh, PA if transactions like this occurred in MLB.

So BEFORE yesterday's game, David de Gea apparently conceded 25 straight penalty shots. Yesterday he added extra 11. I bet that just by the law of large numbers, a completely randomly jumping 5th league amateur goalie would get one of those 36 saved...

So apparently this will result in every tied knockout leg going to extra time with the potential for penalties. All about that increased advertising revenue. By the time my kid is my age they’ll probably have changed to four 30 minute quarters.
