We used to heat our house with a wood stove when I was a kid. Just after Halloween, we'd get a cord or two of wood delivered. My brother and I had to stack that ****. For days, it seemed, after school. My mother says I used to cry when the truck backed into our driveway to dump the wood.
Wait... I just assumed they would stack it when they delivered.

I don't understand why people pay for wood to heat their house.

Why would you want to pay AND do the work?

Just get an oil furnace and only pay?

Pellet stove is a nice compromise there. I switched to a heat pump to get rid of my oil, knowing months like we're in now I'd be paying more, but I don't have those giant tanks and huge furnace taking up the basement anymore.

We had an old oil furnace, and this was back during the late 70s early 80s when oil prices (embargoes etc.) were high. My parents didn't like to run it much, and firewood was relatively cheap...as was the labor. Damn it.

We just replaced an old wood burner with a new more efficient one and it's awesome for a weekend away. Not sure I would want to heat a house full time like that though. I have to run a gallon of distilled water through my sinuses every day because of how dried out I get.

I had a friend who had a wood burning stove to heat his house. He had a wooded lot behind him and each Spring his Dad would cut down a tree or two and they'd spend a good amount of the Summer splitting firewood. I think they had a log splitting machine that they used for the big logs, and then would manually chop it up with an ax to get it to the size small enough to fit in the stove.

Yeah that too. I feel like the splitting stacking and carrying is equal to the cost of the pellet/oil.

We had to do that too DG66...it was my least favorite thing...

We couldn't have oil for some reason...I think our oil tank cracked underground and the price to fix it up front wasn't worth it...

But yeah, we had a wood burning stove to heat the whole house...sometimes you had to chainsaw the wood down...you had to bring some in the house if it was gonna snow to prevent it from getting wet and all...wake up at night sometimes to help keep it going...it was a whole thing...

Right, that's what I mean. You either pay for the pellets or split and stack the wood. You don't want to pay for the wood AND stack it.

Well I received my Solo Stove package today. Instead of the Yukon, it was filled with 250 paper bags for a company called "Dancewear City."

And their offices are closed due to the snow in Texas so all I can do is email them and wait for a response within 3-5 business days. Great.

Sounds like someone bought one, 'returned' it, and SS didn't QA the return before restocking it.

I have no idea. Dancewear City is a store located about 25 miles from the Solo Stove HQ. I don't know how that would get mixed up though.

You attach them to pop-up tent canopies for various reasons...it adds some degree of protection from elements while sleeping or if it's too hot at certain times of the day...it provides some degree of privacy if you're right on a main path...and it acts as a marker to help easily find your camp site when your brain is slightly compromised (also, can be used as a flag for the same purposes)...

As an aside on the wood thing, if you search for stuff like "homemade wood splitter" or homemade log processing," you can see all sorts of videos on YouTube of people who, at some point in the near future, are going to experience a significant reduction in their number of limbs or digits thanks to their massively dangerous homemade contraptions.

I saw a pretty good one the other day. A star looking "hammer" on the end of an excavator bucket.
