Source of the post Also when they are deciding what to do for King, Everyone is fine that the North is going to be free, but Asha is ok with the Iron Islands not being free... Right. And obviously Tyrion's "who has a better story" is laughable because of how Bran was handled all along.
That's EXACTLY what we said when watching. I expected everybody else to stand up and be like "hol up. We can just be free? I choose that."
x3
In retrospect, it really is amazing how bad the final season hurt the entire franchise... it seemingly disappeared from pop culture over night.
It truly is wild. It's almost like a bad ex people are embarrassed to bring up that they ever even dated in the first place, let alone were smitten with for years
"Hey, remember when you were super into Cynthia?"
"Huh...oh I mean, she was okay for a little bit, I wouldn't say I was 'super into' her or anything, c'mon, we've seen her social media lately, she's a complete trainwreck."

But yeah, so many spinoffs in the works eventually canned....the financial scope of D&D's failure, both their own and otherwise, is massive.

Penultimate season also sucked.

Basically the last two episodes of season six were two hours of television bliss, then everything after was a long nightmare.

10 episode first season of the spin-off starts filming in April. Guess they’re trying to find the sweet spot between “everyone hates the IP because of D&D” and “some people still have a passing interest that remains unfulfilled because the books will never be finished”.

GRRM actually said he made "significant progress" on Winds of Winter this last year...because he was stuck at home like the rest of us.

Still no release date, of course.

In GRRM's world "significant progress" likely means that he remembered he was supposed to be working on the book and decided to set out looking for the pages he set aside before giving up and instead working on another encyclopedia.

I see...y'all had to wait until I disappeared to admit the last season was a complete failure.

Remember when Bran figured out he could time travel and do crazy things and warg into whatever he wanted?

Remember when Vary’s had the wizard that cut his dick off?

Remember the other red priests/priestesses?

Remember when Jamie had a character arc that was making sense?

Remember when Dany wanted to break the wheel?

This **** show

R/freefolk has been a soothing balm for the train wreck that was the ending of that show.

Still amazes me that the eighth season was so bad, GoT virtually disappeared from pop culture overnight.

The Long Night was terrific.

Also, who is Bran?

I still say Martin screwed his own franchise.

Agreed. That said, I genuinely don't even think he cares at this point. He is swimming in money.

If they wanted to do it right all they had to do was not renew it for an 8th seasons. Boom, speculation city, people still rewatch the series today, huge demand for sequels/prequels. Instead they opted for swift kicks to the genitals and finally performing a “to the pain” ending in their fans who now don’t give any shits.

Evidently, HBO decided it wise to celebrate Game of Thrones 10th anniversary. My YouTube feed has been bombarded with clips, trailers, BTS stuff, and so on. The show just ended less than 4 years ago? Why not wait until six more years? (I know, they are ramping up promoting the new GoT series that are in production)

I watched ten minutes of S1E8 today. Depressing what happened to that show.

It has literally disappeared from the pop culture zeitgeist. The only time you see it mentioned is when people are shtting on it

When I rewatch the show I’m gonna stop after the end of season 4. My favorite episode of the series is The Mountain vs The Viper so I’ll do the one after that then that’s it. Nothing worth watching after that point imo

You know, I'm starting to wonder if this series could be better than its predecessor because it isn't tied to books (that may or may not have been written yet at the time of filming), like a Rogue One. Like we know it's a GoT property, but we have little or no expectations because there isn't 3000+ pages already written about it?

"Looking back, I wish I’d stayed ahead of the books," Martin mused as he looked back on the series. "My biggest issue there was when they began that series, I had four books already in print, and the fifth one came out just as the series was starting in 2011. I had a five-book head start. And these are gigantic books, as you know. I never thought they would catch up with me but they did."

He continued, "They caught up with me and passed me and, you know, that made it a little strange because now, the show was ahead of me and the show was going in somewhat different directions. I'm still working on the book but you'll see my ending when it comes out."

If A Dream of Spring is ever written, it won't be by GRRM.
