Guys...I'm kind of worried about this show. The deeper you get into this last episode the more batshit crazy the whole thing is. These guys might have run dry and have no clue what they're doing.

The internet is dark and full of leaks. Episode 6 is out there. HBO Spain accidentally uploaded it online for an hour this morning.

I think TV shows are difficult to end, the writers are good at building the story up, which GOT has been doing for so long. But trying to wrap this up is proving difficult. But honestly, they were in a tough spot, how do you make Dany play the Game of Thrones when she had so much power, so at least they didn't draw that story line out too long when it would have been unbelievable that she'd sit on the dragons to play diplomacy with the other houses.

I think whatever issues have cropped up in the show are indicative of why GRRM is having so much trouble writing the final books.

but there's more that just the heist plot as a whole that's bananas.

...Varys is a much more qualified smuggler, but Davos was the choice because plot armor. And remember his wife and living children? No? He doesn't either, so it's cool. And the walkers are close enough to Eastwatch that everyone knows they're going to Eastwatch - yet here is all the stuff that has to happen in the time the walkers close the gap: Bran sends raven, shameful plan concocted, Jon and team go North to find walker, Jon and team take walker back to KL, Jon and team bring army back to the wall, Dragonglass made into weapons and everyone is debriefed/trained.

That is several months of work. I don't mind the teleporting, but don't abuse it. And don't abuse it for one of the worst plotlines ever to be on a good show. They needed a reason to go back south and give Cersei a chance to do something sneaky again. They came up with the end point and needed to write backwards. But don't just sign off on the first idea that comes to your desk. There's a thread on reddit that really dives into how insanely stupid the goings on are right now. It's embarrassing. I wouldn't watch this show if it started out this way.

I agree with shmenguin....the writing is off the rails. Jamie and Bronn going into the water right next to the dragon, and then miraculously not surfacing until they were a half mile away (and oddly no Dothraki or anything were scouting for survivors) was ridiculous

This right here is the critical comment.

The strange Team "This Show Sucks" vs. Team "This Show Can Do No Wrong" thing that is going on (at least on the couple message boards I frequent and work/friend circles I've witnessed) really all comes down to the perspective being used to evaluate this season. One camp is looking at the show in a vacuum, i.e., if you disconnect your attachment to the show/characters and grade this season on its own merits, this season is shockingly bad. The other camp (rightly or wrongly-I don't know) won't do that, so the potential warts of this season are masked by past work.

For me, this season is pretty bad standing on its own. My biggest problem with the teleporting is not necessarily the inconsistency with prior seasons but the fact that if we had gotten this the whole time, we'd have little more than that Spartacus blood, guts, and tits show.

That said, in the same way I go to concerts of bands who have a nostalgia factor but may not be "good" in a vacuum, I'll probably finish out the show.

Again I think my view is the payoffs are going to be so great and enormous that it's going to paper over the "Come see the bearded lady/worlds strongest man/undead wight freak road show" they have lined up. I also question whether this plan lasts more than an ep or two, thankfully.

I still think the issue is that this show was not designed for all the plot lines to merge into one. It was always the different story lines occurring in the different places in their world.

Obviously they have to converge to wrap it up GRRM has said that. He can't finish the books precisely because it's hard to achieve this, not because it wasn't designed to bring these plot lines together in the end.

Consider that the book also has myriad other plots that haven't even been brought up and are still alive --eg, (f)aegon

I don't take this show as seriously as some. It's not a work of art. It's a fantasy tv show with dragons/blood/tits. It obviously has good writing compared to most other shows, but I still just watch it to be entertained. I don't hold it up on some high pedestal, I just want to be entertained and this season has still been entertaining even with some obvious jumps in logic to make plot points work.

the zombie heist is gonna last the rest of the year. i'm guessing this week is 100% north (a delightful side affect is that they're going to blow their budget on this next episode because of the CGI - meaning if we skipped this zombie battle, we could have likely gotten another episode out of this year and they could have controlled the pace better. dammit) and next week is when they present the zombie to Cersei. And there isn't much doubt that the zombie will be one of their own. And by that I mean Berric. He is a known person. It's supposed to resonate more. but again...Cersei is insane. she won't care.

and then the season ends with the good guys getting betrayed (and having to flee KL) and then the wall comes down.

I assume, to save money, they just used an episode of Benny Hill, replacing the heads of the bikini girls with zombies.

It is worse than Dorne. It's more entertaining, but so is a gif of a chimp peeing in its own mouth.

This is bad bad stuff, folks. It'll be bottled in 2-3 episodes at least.

Agree on some terms but adorned was awful, early Dany was awful, Arya in Bravos had insane low points. This isn't that.

you're right. i've really liked the first 64 episodes, but the 65th was so bad that i should give up. even though i'm so close to the end. that's the practical move.

this is kind of what kraftster was talking about how everything online is boiled down to this binary thing where you either have to love it or GTFO. the show is superb. but this past episode was a complete piece of s**t. and that makes me sad because i've invested a lot of time into this story, and THIS will be canonical material until the GRRM's frozen head dictates the ending to a robot in the year 2043. this is what thousands of pages and 60+ hours of TV has built up to: a zombie heist that makes no sense. sweet.

I honestly don't see how the last episode was THAT bad. I mean compared to some others... IE most of season 5.. I wouldn't even say its top 5 or maybe even top 10 in worst GOT episodes. At least stuff happened...there have been weeks at a time where NOTHING Has happened in this show before.
