It sounds like a warming over of The Practice.

The Wire has so many great scenes, but I think this is one of the top 5 for sure. My wife knows her boy Stringer ain't long for this world now.

Nope.

We started watching The Upshaws on Netflix. Mike Epps and Wanda Sykes are funny, but the rest of the cast is very meh.

Started a rewatch of Stranger Things after the talk here a few weeks ago. Say what you want about the later seasons (I honestly don't remember much from them) but the first season is insanely good. They earned the hype.

I don't think anyone will disagree with you. Even season 2 was really strong. Season 3, however...

I remember being frustrated with the end of season 3, but like I said I honestly don't remember much. I'll check back in after season 2.

Season 1 was sorta perfect. Wish it was more of an anthology show rather than continuing the same story. Aside from the diminishing returns from the actors and show runners and the story just going nowhere interesting, it’s tough to bring the same villain back for 3 seasons and not establish a clear motive or mythology. Just a generically evil monster. Ok.

Finally got around to finishing Tehran (Apple TV+). It was good, and glad to see a second season coming eventually. It had a big budget Fauda (Netflix) feel to it, and that's because the shows have the same writers.

It really got me wondering about Iran and so I went back to Bourdain's Parts Unknown episode from 2014, where he was able to visit there. Interestingly enough, they added a mid-show update on the Iran nuclear deal which hadn't been finalized yet when he filmed in June 2014. The producers added that Trump pulled out of the deal etc., so it's good that these things are getting updated. Also, the postscript mentioned the WashPo reporter Bourdain talked to - and was arrested six weeks after filming - was eventually released after 500+ days in jail, used as a bargaining chip to get concessions for the nuclear deal.

So eventually, all of Bourdain's shows will become out of date, sadly. It was still really well done...and oy, the biryani and lamb kebabs...droool.

Castlevania season 4.

I really like the visuals and how everything was wrapped but it did seem a bit rushed to tie up all the ends. It went from slow burn in S2 and S3 to warp speed.

I wish this was set in a different era, maybe early-mid 90s. Setting it in the 70s, similar to the original series, just makes you question even more the point of rebooting this.

SEAL Team was moved to Paramount+. Guess I’ll have to grab torrents of it next year, but I now expect it to be cancelled at the end of the season.

Jon Bernthal, Josh Charles, Jamie Hector To Star In ‘We Own This City’ HBO Limited Series From ‘The Wire’ Team
Jon Bernthal, Josh Charles and Jamie Hector have been tapped as the leads of HBO’s We Own This City limited series, from The Wire’s EP David Simon and producer George Pelecanos. Reinaldo Marcus Green (Monsters and Men) is set to direct and executive produce the series, based on Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton’s book We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption. Production is set to begin in July.

The six-hour limited series chronicles the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force — and the corruption and moral collapse that befell an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest were championed at the expense of actual police work.

Bernthal plays Sgt. Wayne Jenkins of the Baltimore Police Department, perhaps the central figure in the sprawling federal corruption case that centered on the agency’s Gun Trace Task Force, a plainclothes unit that went completely rogue and began hunting and robbing citizens and drug dealers alike as decades of a relentless drug war and mass incarceration in Baltimore spun wildly out of control.

Charles is Daniel Hersl, who was a cocky, swaggering cop known amongst Baltimore residents for his casual brutality and was the subject of multiple citizen complaints. Hersl was effectively banned from the Eastern District before his move to the GTTF.

2020-21 Netflix Pilots & Series Orders

Hector plays Sean M. Suiter, a Baltimore City Homicide detective who was caught up in the GTTF case and called to testify before a federal grand jury. Tragically, Suiter finds he can’t outrun his past.

Man, this would be so much better without James Corden. He's basically British Jimmy Fallon.

Stranger Things season 2: the storyline with 11 and the Pittsburgh goth gang is every bit as bad as someone said it was in this thread. It turns into a CW show whenever they're featured.
