Just finished S04 of The Wire. How they gonna do Bodie like that? God damn this show is good.
Season 4 is probably the peak of that show... Season 5 is not great, but it's still better than most television shows. We are only midway through season 2 on the re-watch with my wife
(D'Angelo just got got...)
She is hanging in, but I can tell she is not as into this season as the first. I told her even though season 2 isn't the best (probably the 2nd worst after season 5), it still wraps up nicely at the end of the season.. and then on to 3 and 4 which are both incredible IMO.

Bodie did Wallace. You gotta make peace with it. There are more un-just things coming.

I know why, but I liked Bodie. Excited about S05, even though you two say it's the worst of the bunch. McNutty's back, baby!

Movie thread talk regarding the Tom Clancy world got me thinking:

We're watching the Jack Ryan TV series and it's taking me a while to get over how NOT connected to the books the show is. It's like they took the names and some of the associations and ran a completely different direction with it.

The show isn't bad (my wife likes it without having read any of the books), but it's hard not to point out all the incorrect correlations to the books. The hardest thing to get over is the Jim Greer character. He's nothing at all like the Jim Greer of the books.

Yeah, it's bascially the names of the characters in both the TV show and the Without Remorse film. And that's about it. I'm fine with it. I read all of the books back in the day, and enjoy them, but being set in the Cold War, they are obviously dated. I think the Clancy estate just wants to keep the Jack Ryan name out there. I'm assuming there are still new ghost-written books being published?

But wouldn't it be cool if HBO or Netflix took one of the original Ryan novels and redid them as limited series? The books are so dense that they would work much better as a miniseries. Set them in the Cold War, too.

Books like Rainbow Six and the double header of Debt of Honor and Executive Orders would work in today's world. Basically all books after Rainbow Six would work. Heck, Rainbow Six as a TV series in and of itself would be great. Make the first season or two based on the book, then spin off from there.

I was thinking a ten-part Hunt for Red October. Obviously with a new Jack Ryan. Wait - is ClancyVerse a multi-verse?

Part of the appeal of the character of Jack Ryan was that, despite being fantastically wealthy and married to a world-class ophthalmologist, he still read as basically an Everyman. There was nothing 'elite' about him; he achieved exceptionalism through toil, not talent. (I mean, except for becoming President by being the Designated Survivor) And I still maintain that Alec Baldwin is the best on-screen depiction of the character (admittedly having never watched the Amazon show).

He was an elite analyst. Brains, not brawn. But the Amazon show depicts him Jack Bauer lite.

He was my favorite fictional President. Didn't play the political game but still got ish done.

Baldwin is so good that I don’t like the Ford movies.

Guess I'm in the minority then. Perhaps it's because I saw Patriot Games before THFRO

Patriot Games is the best adaptation to date imo, even acknowledging it has an inferior Ryan.

I'm enough of a fan that I still enjoy the films Ford did, but I no longer care for A Streetcar Named Desire.

I do not like the new version of The Wire's theme music for S05. S04's was the best.

Looks like the kids are going to play Plinko on The Price is Right in season 4. Very exciting.

I really hope season 4 hinges in Wynona Ryder’s comedic chops like season 3. It was such a big success.

...I’m probably not returning to Stranger Things. Season 3 was so bad it killed it.

S3 wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad enough for me to abandon the show... though I really don’t remember much of what happened other than the big Hopper mystery imploding with Hellboy’s box office. They definitely caught lightning in the bottle with S1 and have had diminished returns since. Not sure how much I like the global focus of S3, which I assume will be expanded in S4. S1 was built on 80s nostalgia and small town creepiness. The further they get from small town creepiness the more the show suffers. The story started to wear thin in S3 and I hope for the benefit of the show this is the end.

It jumped the shark when Eleven went to Chicago/Pittsburgh for pretty much no reason.
